As usual, I shall wait and see. If there are no major problems then I will download but I am going to give it awhile, especially since the Ask Woody link notes at least 10 problems acknowledged by Microsoft with this as of today.
I don't need or want problems so I am going to wait until they can say they are fixed.
Another reason is this isn't going to be automatically offered at this time, you have to ask for it so...I am not asking.

I just asked but no updates were made available to me on 3 different computers. People on Ask Woody who did update did not report any issues yet. Waiting is probability a good idea but I have been running the preview version on a test computer during the development cycle and never had any problems with it.

It DOES show on my Windows Update if I want it I can choose to take it. I shall not do this yet as I said before.
I did not manually check for the update, my computer is set to automatically check and the notification was already there when I opened Updates and Security in Settings.

This afternoon I updated one of my computers to Windows 10 Version 2004 (aka May 2020 Update). When I went to Windows Update page I was not offered the 2004 update so I went to www.microsoft.com/en_us/software-downloads/windows10 website clicked on the update now button. This downloaded a file called windows10upgrade9252.exe to my computer. I started the update program (windows10upgrade9252.exe) at 2:33 PM. The program downloaded the needed update files and started installing the update. At 3.:19 PM the update requested I restart the computer. I restarted the computer and the computer displayed the Working on Updates screen. When the updates reached 78% complete my screen went black for what seemed like forever however after about 45 seconds the screen reappeared showing 79% completed. At 3:32PM my login screen displayed, I logged in followed by a more updating and then the Welcome Back to Windows screen appeared. The update went smoothly. I have spent very little time playing with it yet but have not seen any problems. After the update winver shows Version 2004 Build 19041.264 WARNING: There known problems with this update (see earlier post and check askwoody.com). Windows Update will not automatically install this update, you must select (other updates available) to install it or go the link I used. SHOULD I INSTALL IT?: That's a question only you can answer. After updating you can roll back to your previous version (I believe you have 10 days to roll back). I would highly recommend that you do a complete full clone backup of your computer before install update.

The Upgrade showed on my Update screen last night. I started the download/install after 2am and left it running after about 10minutes when it was showing 95% complete for 'getting things ready' I did not look at it again until 9am when a Restart was shown as being required. Set this is action and left it again. I am not sure how long that took but it was less than half an hour. As far as I can ascertain all is running as it should be, and speedily. No complaints from me.
When clicking on Update History/Whats new in this Update the attached screen appears which looks quite informative.
I shall upate my laptop overnight tonight to take advantage of my wonderful ISP's very generous increased data allowance of 60GB to 1000Gb during off peak time which lasts until the end of June. They also have allowed an extra 20GB over and above our 60GB Peak time limit, if it is needed. (instigated during covid-19 lockdown).
Edit: Yes, I did have a full back up done beforehand

And I bet it was done with an old version of what I think is the best backup program in the market place. Ashampoo Backup Pro.

Also another one done with Aomei (just in case) and a second Ashampoo Pro 10 one done on another external drive + a full back up of any changes in my Documents and Pictures done with Syncbac. I can now do a new Ashampoo backup for the new edition and keep the other Ashampoo old one for a while as a precaution.
I have never had to restore a backup, although I have retrieved accidentally deleted files.

With all the problems that have happened with each Win 10 update since back in 2018, Microsoft released this newest update yesterday 5/27/20 (Pacific Coast time in USA) and will SLOWLY be releasing the update in rolling fashion as they always do with an expectation that it could take a couple of months before the release rolls around the world market ..... Fortunately, there were again problems found by MS with this latest update and they are already working on repairing those so folks getting the later offer may get a much improved version.....
I mostly am on and using Apple devices so in no hurry to get the update on a couple of older laptops running Windows 10 or a new one used for just a couple of programs only ... Just gets frustrating that MS does all the test releases and yet still has so many problems with final releases ... old codgers like myself would prefer not to have headaches with the newest releases, but that just would not seem to be the MS goal it would seem; not sure what the hurry is ..... . It was pretty scary frustrating in the not to distant past when the MS response to fixing one of the updates with many problems was just to delete it completely and wait a few months until the next operating system update.
I would 2nd the suggestion of Judy to just wait awhile until the kinks get worked out and then let the updating take place now that MS lets us wait to take the update and not have it forced upon us. The WARNING in the 5th paragraph of the "How To Geek" article sounds like the same and good advice.... at least IMHO..... Best of luck to those who do get the update, wishing you trouble free performance from your machine(s)....

I have to agree that if anyone is nervous they should wait. I have never had the patience to do that but have been very fortunate that each and every update I have done at the earliest opportunity has worked without any problems. And I would add.......there are probably not many codgers older than me. Maybe that’s why I hurry to get the updates done. Time is precious. I joke of course. Partly
My laptop I intend to update ASAP has not yet received the update so I shall be patient and wait until it is ready to roll.
In my opinion humble though it is ..........we hear a lot about the problems people have all the time. Not many that have trouble free experiences bother to report so we tend to get a biased view of the reliability of any update. Which in turn makes people nervous.
There is no desperate hurry to update so. I say do what makes you happy. For me it is give it a go and roll back if it does not work out. If only everything in life were that simple !

Can only think that is because you did not update via the update page because your actual Feature Update is not even showing. How strange. As you see I have also had updates for Flash and .net framework after the upgrade as well

I have now updated all 4 of my computers that run Windows 10 plus a clients computer. All 5 updates were done using the update tools found at the www.microsoft.com/en_us/software-downloads/windows10 website. All the computers completed the update without issues and booted to the Windows 2004 desktop. However, the desktop screen of the client's computer displayed OK but flickered and responded extremely slow when I tried to do anything. A restart of the computer did not change anything. I then restarted the computer a second time which resulted in a restart that did not complete and nothing but a totally black screen displayed. It was late at night so I powered down the computer and went to bed. This AM I powered on the computer and during the startup Windows reported that it was having problems starting the computer and offered the option of trying to fix the problem or to roll back the computer to the previous installed version of Windows. Knowing that Windows 10 Version 2004 has some known hardware compatibility problems I elected to roll back to the previous installed version of Windows. The roll back process went quickly and the full functionally of the computer returned. The computer in question was a HP Pavilion Slimline that is about 3 years old. My 4 computers and my sons 2 computers are all working with no known problems after updating to Windows 10 Version 2004 Build 19041.264 As Everton said in an earlier post "There is no desperate hurry to update so. I say do what makes you happy. For me it is give it a go and roll back if it does not work out. If only everything in life were that simple !"

I did not manually check for the update, my computer is set to automatically check and the notification was already there when I opened Updates and Security in Settings. Well after reading of Everton's success with her installs after the Upgrade showed on her Update screen and because as I noted 7 days ago that the option of the Upgrade also had appeared on my Update screen I decided this morning to go ahead and do the upgrade and, surprise of surprises, it is no longer there! No I had NOT done the upgrade and my Windows version is still 1909 (OS Build 18363.836 so evidently my offer was "rescinded" by MS....LOL. Though also there is a statement on one of the How To Geek pages concerning this upgrade which says; "If the update hasn’t appeared in Windows Update yet, it’s possible Microsoft isn’t yet confident that it will work perfectly with your PC." So it may be the case that perhaps my computer will not handle it perfectly
Anyway, I shall wait now for sure until I am offered it again, especially since the info on the How To Geek page listed by Everton on what is in this upgrade tells me that there really is very little in this upgrade that I would even use, I could count three different things and that is all, so I will wait.

Although I had a successful update I would recommend people wait until Microsoft determines your computer is ready for the update and offers it to you through Windows Update. I do full image backups backups of my computers daily so I knew in case of failure I had an easy recovery. I just took a survey where 70% of the respondents said they had no problems with the upgrade and 15% said they had minor easily but fixed problems. Remember backups are never a bad thing to do before doing a major system update.

When I checked the laptop updates they were ready to go. Installed just fine. This is the message I got when I checked updates for my desktop. “The Windows 10 May 2020 Update is on its way. We’re offering this update to compatible devices, but your device isn’t quite ready for it. Once your device is ready, you’ll see the update available on this page [Windows Update]. There’s nothing you need to do at this time.” More info here.. www.techspot.com/news/85444-microsoft-letting-users-know-if-their-pc-can.htmlI'm glad they are holding off until the pc is read. pat

I was just sent this information, published June 1st, concerning this new upgrade:
I have not been offered it again since it disappeared the other day so I am not going to look for it and I will wait. If it is offered it likely will show as Optional until all the bugs are fixed.

There is a further warning about this update in the Ask Woody newsletter. Online version is here www.askwoody.com/newsletter/free-edition-coming-to-a-pc-near-you-win10-2004-the-may-2020-update/I have received Cumulative Update KB4557957 on my Upgraded PC which has installed with no problems and it is currently downloading on my laptop.
Edit: The Cumulative update successfully installed on my laptop also. On both machines after the installation there appeared a window with Privacy options to turn on or off. Everything on it starts disabled - you have the option to turn them on - location etc.

Looks to me like there is nothing to be gained from downloading this 'improvement' anyway. For the general home user, I can't see anything strikingly different from the current version. Or am I missing something?

Have to say I agree Barney. I have read through all that has been listed as in this new "upgrade" multiple times and as I said earlier I could only see three things that pertained to my machines and none of those were really "have to update" items either. Very minor really.

I can say that I have not noticed any startling differences but there are actually quite a few new features. This is a screen shot of the information that comes after download in the "Whats New in this Update" section. There are 5 more boxes I could not fit in. There is nothing that can not wait though.

Since my update it worked fine, then after few minor updates it was OK--After a few days if it went to sleep or I put it to sleep. Sometimes it would be "FROZEN ? I would have to restart it to unfreeze it. Since then I haven't found a way to fix it.

I would have to restart it to unfreeze it. Since then I haven't found a way to fix it. As this issue did not start immediately after the upgrade it could be happening for other reasons. Have you performed a "Restart" since it started happening ? (not a shut down and reboot) Make sure there are no memory intensive programs running in the background, and run a virus scan. If that makes no difference I would suggest ensuring Fast Start Up is disabled.
To do this go to Control Panel (right click start button, click search and type in Control panel and hit enter)
In Control Panel click on Power Options, and then Click Choose what the power buttons do in the left pane.
In the next window that opens you need to click on Change settings that are currently unavailable and from there you can uncheck Turn on Fast Start-up Remember to Save Change at bottom of page before leaving it

I dis what you said which was clear and easy to follow. Right now I'm watching a live stream you tube video watching a pair of loons hatching and raising chicks, so I'll have to wait until I shut it off. The action is one chick has hatched--Mom is calling for Dad. She wants to get off and eat, but a neighbor called in and said Dad is trying to chase away an intruder . HOPE IT WON'T TURN OUT TO A KILL
