I have a Windows 7 laptop and was wondering if it would be safe to use for Hotmail only? Sometimes it's just nicer to sit and have the laptop on my lap while writing a letter and I was wondering if I'd use my old Windows 7 computer for only reading and writing emails with my Hotmail account and nothing else would that be safe?

As long as you keep your antivirus programs current and updated you will be OK to continue to use Windows 7. A regular check for Malware should also be part of your regular routine.
