I wonder if anyone know when we can expect the spring update for Windows 10. vera There has been one released, it is not an automatic update but must be done manually and there have been some problems with it so the advice is wait. You might want to read this thread. Several have downloaded, several have not.
I was offered it in my Updates but I didn't take it cause I wanted to check things out before doing so and then it disappeared.
So now I will wait for sure.

I very much agree with you. I also read of the problems people are having. I have not been offered it.

Today my and my husband’s laptop were advised that Windows 2004 are available for download! I decided to do my husband’s laptop first since it is an HP and a bit older than my Asus. Both have a monitor, keyboard and mouse attached. The HP has been a very slow laptop and I have tried to get my husband to get a new one but so far no go. A few weeks ago he could not start his camera on the HP and I tried for hours to fix that but all I did was somehow mess up Chrome browser so that his Yahoo mail would not work on it any longer. All other websites worked still fine. He could use the camera on Zoom meetings. The update took over 4 hours and when I started it up again it looked pretty well like before. I tried his Yahoo mail and it was working normal again! Good. The camera still did not work. I went to settings to check on update history and found that the installation that I just did failed!! Disappointment but the Chrome browser works right again so something good came of it. I wonder if I should remove all peripherals from my laptop before trying to update that and if keeping them attached might be the cause of the failure? sorry about the long post. Thanks for any advice. Vera

Vera, it is strongly advised that you do NOT take this upgrade at this time on either of your computers.
Read this entire thread, including all of the links contained in it and you will see why you should NOT take it.
This upgrade is NOT mandatory or automatic at this time and it is likely that it will be awhile before it is.
For the camera, since you said this is an old computer it may be that the camera has just "given up", plus and upgrade or update of the OS likely would not fix that anyway. Since you say there is a monitor attached is this camera a "free standing" camera that works with the external monitor or one built into the laptop for use on the attached laptop monitor?
How old is the computer?

The laptop is approx 6 years old and has a built-in camera. When I try to use it a window pops up saying that another program is already using it. About the update I thought since it came up on my site it was safe to use it now. I will now wait. Thanks, Judy

Open the camera and when you get the message then open the Task manager and see what else might be running. Things that it could be would be Skype, Cortana, Photos, Twitter and many other things. If you see any of those, turn them off.
You also can set which apps can access your camera by going to Settings>Updates and Privacy>Camera
How do you do your Zoom visits? I do NOT turn the camera on, I do it via the Zoom app itself.

... I went to settings to check on update history and found that the installation that I just did failed!! What are you referring in the quote above? Are you saying that the Windows 2004 update failed? What version of Windows is showing when you do a Winver? The most current Windows 10 version is now Version 2004 Build 19041.329. If winver does not report Version 2004 then you do not have the update.
I agree with Judy on the camera issue. You need to figure out the program that is using it. Her list of programs is a good place to start search.
Even though Microsoft has determined your computer has meet its requirements to update to Windows 10 Version 2004 I would recommend waiting a while longer before updating to the 2004 version. Microsoft is working fixing the problems and have fixed some but not all of them. I would also highly recommend that you do a complete image backup of your computer prior to applying the update when its time to update.
I have updated all my computers to Version 2004 and have not had any problems but I am aware of several people who have problems. In my opinion, there are no must have features in Version 2004 so by waiting you will not be missing anything.

I do not turn the camera an, the zoom app does that itself. I just tried the camera again with several settings changed but still get the same little window. Since I had problems before I will forget about it now since it works on Zoom and that is all that my husbands needs. As far as Windows 2004 is concerned I shall wait with that for now Thanks for your help :-)

Windows is OS Build 18363.900 I always update. I was particularly wondering if I should unplug the extra monitor, keyboard and mouse before trying for Windows 2004 and just have the laptop bare bones?

I don't think it would make any difference but unplugging them will give Windows less hardware to deal with during the update

Vera, Personally I would advise against doing this at this time. Read These links:
Note what woody says about the fact that they are just "offering" this not doing it automatically like other upgrades;
Also, it is 4GB so you need a fast connection and if you don't have that then you should let it do it overnight.

How do I do a complete image update? I have never done one before, just a backup I use Ashampoo Backup Pro 14 as my backup software. Right now it's on sale for $20 on Ashampoo's website. However, there are a lot of good free backup programs that will do an image backup. What program do you use when you backup?

I bit the bullet on an older HP laptop which I use occasionally and downloaded and installed the update. I started the update at 7:15 pm and had to abandon the laptop at half past midnight while it was still in the installation phase. Came down this morning and the update seems to have gone ok but time will tell once I try to actually use the laptop.
So, be warned! It will take a LONG time!

I also just updated my older laptop. It took all night and part of this morning. At first glance all seems OK and I just created an AOMEI system image so that if need be I can restore and not have to go through this update again.

I have lost my wifi capabilities on the laptop but I am connected via ethernet without a problem. I tried a few troublshooting procedures but no joy with wifi. There is a locked padlock showing next to my wifi connections. I have three options, direct to router and two wifi extenders. All of them have stopped working but I can access all of them by other means i.e tablet and mobile phone.
Any suggestions?

Any wifi connection that is secure, requires authentication to connect, will have the locked padlock to show you that. In other words you need to have the password and type it in so that you can access that network.

On mine all I have to do is click my connection or the one I want and the password box comes up and I type it in. Of course once it is in there then I connect automatically so I don't have to do that every time. Attachments:

I know you said you tried a few troubleshooting procedures, which ones?
Did you Clear the DNS resolver cache ?
Right click on start button and click on Command Prompt (Admin).
Type ipconfig /flushdns and then press Enter.
DId you check Device Manager and make sure there is a network adapter listed.
You also might try setting up a New Wireless network.
Did you perform All of the steps given Here? There are at least 13 different things to try.

Curiosity killed the cat...but I survived! I just installed the Windows 2004 update on my ASUS laptop. It took less than 3 hours and seems to be working. Will wait to try again on my husband's HP until it comes automatically.
