I am looking to install a free photo duplicate cleaner. recommendations. From putting pics onto an external drive then copied again, I have saved duplicates and I would like to clean up.
one that will scan and delete without asking for a purchase. Thanks

I have never used one but do know that ccleaner has a duplicate file finder in it ‘tools’ so if you have ccleaner you already have one. This is a link to description which also has another link to 10 duplicate file finder tools you may want to look at. www.techspot.com/downloads/132-ccleaner.html

Warning - Using a duplicate file finder to delete files may be harmful to your computer if the wrong files get deleted. Make sure the files you are deleting are not required or needed for the OS or programs you use.

It was a review of various duplicates, I want to only scan picture files, not the entire computer. Only duplicate photos, as they get transferred or imported more than once.

Ideally you want a program that compares image (picture) files by their content. There are probably still some around. I have an excellent free one, but unfortunately it is no longer available. Try googling "compare image files". There are several available, but the ones I had a quick look at are not free. Edit: Here's a free one which I have used - dupkiller.com/index_en.htmlIt's pretty powerful and needs to be used with care. You can specify drives, folders and files to be compared, and you can also limit the scan to specified file types. It's 13 years old, but it still works - I'm actually running it now in Windows 10. Read the program notes on the first webpage. There's plenty of detail there.
