Avira has an update available, but also wants to install the Opera browser, which I do not want. My ? is how do I update without installing the Opera browser?

You are using Windows 10, as discussed multiple times on multiple threads here, you do not need another AV program because the built in Windows Defender in Windows 10 is an Excellent security "suite" containing an av program and firewall so you truly don't need any outside av program or firewall. Looking at their most recent install file I do not believe there is an option to Not take Opera because they have integrated the Opera browser together with all the browser extensions into Avira Free Security Suite. The only option they give is to choose your preferred browser as default and then Uninstall Opera after Avira is installed.

Apply the update, choose preferred browser as default through it, then if not wanting Opera, uninstall it. If that is correct, the only other option would be to uninstall Avira from my PC which I have had a long time.

Did you read my entire thread? You truly do not need Avira or any other 3rd party anti-virus program. Your signature says you are using Windows 10 which has an EXCELLENT BUILT IN AV program plus the 2 way firewall.
Most of us here using Windows 10 DON'T use a 3rd party Av program. We use the excellent built in AV program and Firewall
See these threads:
Windows Defender in Windows 10 receives EXCELLENT scores in outside AV tests. I have used nothing else since I got my first Windows 10 computer 5 years ago. My granddaughter is an IT specialist for a large company and they use ONLY Windows Defender on their Windows 10 computers.
But if you don't want to do that then yes, your only other option to keep Avira is to follow the instructions I gave which I got STRAIGHT from the Avira Website.

NOT criticizing, to each his own, I am just curious, what is the reason you would rather use a 3rd party program instead of the built in security program? It does automatic updates, it does scans all like any other av program and everything is really handled via Windows Automatic Updates. As I said, I am just curious that is all.
