HP Pavilion P6616F/ Window 10 Home 64 bit/Firefox / Window Defender Fire Wall/ Super Anti Spyware/ Malwarebytes/ SpywareBlaster/ CCleaner
I had Avira Antivirus on my computer and wanted to remove it and use Window Defender after reading one of the posts. I was able to remove Avira Antivirus, but when I hit start it still shows up there and also in the lower right hand corner on that bar. When I click on it, it only shows Get Pro, Register and listings that I can install (although I would like that removed also.) I noticed I have Avira Browser Safety listed form 2016 but when I try to uninstall it says OP incompatibility, then shows Do you want this app to make changes to your device. If I say yes or no get same response of going back to uninstall. And nothing happens. Figured I should remove anything from avira before activating Defender AV. So can you help me do that and then get defender either installed or running? Please explain in detail as I’m so confused I can’t remember how to find anything. Thanks for any help Char

How did you remove Avira from your computer? Based on what you are saying here it appears that Avira was not removed. I believe that there is a Avira removal tool available to uninstall Avira. Check the Avira website, download and run the removal tool. Once Avira is removed Windows Defender should automatically activate.

I am unfamiliar with avira never having used it. The notification icon still visible is possibly the Avira Launcher which will need to be uninstalled separately

I am unfamiliar with avira never having used it. The notification icon still visible is possibly the Avira Launcher which will need to be uninstalled separately It is possible that might be the case. I used Avira a long time, but it has been awhile. I know that there were several things listed in Add/Remove and each one had to be removed.
When you say if you hit Start it still shows there...do you mean in the Start menu or in the Program Listings?? For the listing in the System Tray are you just clicking or are you Right Clicking? Big difference. If you Right Click there may be the option to Exit.
Both of the above may just be left over icons meaning nothing and can just be deleted however, if you didn't do the uninstall correctly then it should be done again and then do a Restart, not just Shut Down.
