When I go to shut down my laptop I get a message at the top saying I need to close down work but cannot find anything open. This has been going on for a few weeks but the laptop still shuts down. Any ideas as to where I might look to find the work would be appreciated as it's driving me nuts.

Can you post the exact message you are getting please?p You can look in task manager to see what is still running.

Just a thought. Try doing a Restart and then Shutdown. Restart closes down completely whereas Shut Down uses a feature called ‘ Fast start up’ ( unless you have disabled it) that puts your Laptop onto a form of sleep mode so any glitches such as yours can possibly reappear.

You may think in is all shut down, but it isn't. Do Ctrl-Alt-Del and choose task manager and see what is showing before you shut down.

This happens to me sometimes with Outlook. Building on Mr. Bill's advice--I go to task manager and close Outlook there. All works fine. Every once in a while Outlook won't load. My view is it acts as if it's open but then won't appear. So again, I go to Task Manager, shut Outlook and it then will load if that's what I want or I can easily shut down if that's what I want. All this to say--follow what Mr. Bill said and utilize my process. Hope it helps. Joel

Did the Ctrl-Alt-Del & task manager & got Google Chrome & Malwarebytes tray app. Not sure what to do now with the info, age is a pain, brain just not working as well as it used too. Using my phone's wi-fi hotspot to connect to the internet & today the signal is terrible cannot get pages on my tablet to come up but so far laptop ok. Will try the restart & see what happens.

Did the Restart boy was it slow, let it run for a few minutes & removed the Malwarebytes app from the system tray then did a Shutdown & nothing came up this time. Hope that is all I need to do. Have written the info into my notebook for future reference. Thank you all for the help much appreciated. World Start was my life line over the years.

What do you use for a browser? Is it Google Chrome? Or something else?

That it took a long time to restart suggests something was shutting down. I have fast start disabled. If you would like to do that please come back if you need instructions.

Posted a reply yesterday but think I must have forgotten to post reply. Yes MrBill I do use chrome all the time. Not sure what fast start is Everton. Did notice yesterday when I shut down there was a message at the top but it's so quick I can never read it so it may be google chrome again but I had shut it down. Having trouble the last few days connecting to Amazon Australia also Overdrive with a local library using my tablet, ok with my laptop & mobile phone. What is another good browser I can use instead. Have Edge on Laptop but not keen on it.

Try restarting it and DO NOT use Chrome this time. Use something else and see what happens. Edge is on there as it is part of Windows 10.
