After reading advice in my computer mag that OpenOffice is no longer recommended for use, I downloaded Libre Office to my two main desktop computers. Both computers are running Windows 10 with all recent updates. One computer runs Libre Office with no problems. My main home computer however, will only run Libre Office in Libre safe mode. If I try to run the 'normal' version it refuses to open.
I have tried disabling my Norton AV with no improvement.
Both computers have the same AV installed.

Problem solved!
One of the options within Safe Mode is to disable hardware acceleration.
Disabling this solved the problem.

Since you are looking at a change in your office program, you might also want to check out www.freeoffice.com/en/
FWIW that is what I am currently using.

Thanks Phil, I have installed Freeoffice. I'll let you know how I get on with it.
I hope you and your family are staying safe and well.

We are all well thank goodness. We wear our masks in public, social distance and basiccally go nowhere except to the grocery store and various mediical offices. I saw where the UK is essentially shutting down again for a month. I suppose that includes Scotland.

The whole of the Central belt including Glasgow is on a partial shutdown of hospitality but shops etc are still open. Jean and I are having trouble getting our flu vaccinations due to the problems within our National Health Service. Younger folks are being prioritised over the elderly (go figure!)

Reading this thread prompted me to update my office programs. I have both Libre Office and Softmaker Free Office. I like both. On downloading the updates I was surprised to see that Libre is 302MB and FreeOffice just 111MB.
