I finally bought a new Laptop with Windows 10 to replace my Windows Professional 7.0.
Inspiron 15 5501 Dell 15.6 inch Inspiron Laptop 10th Gen Intel Core i5-1035G1-1080p CPU@1.00GHz 64-Bit Operating System, x64 – based processor
12GB
My question to you wonderful folks is....."Could I use Microsoft 2002 Works Suite (CD)" in my new laptop? I still have the box and Product Key Number.
If not, what Microsoft Works Suite do you recommend for me? I am a 84 young grandmother who likes to keep in the loop, and always read this forum for advice. I have been using Microsoft Word for many moons.....I don't need all the bells and whistles....
Also, do you recommend me to download Shell or stick with Windows 10?
Thank you.....Marie/Cricket

This free office program will easily do what your old works program has done includiing working with word files.
Also since you are coming from Windows 7 you will like the looks and feel of Classic Shell.

Works was discontinued quite awhile ago. But it cannot hurt anything if you want to try it. If it doesn't work then you will know that it cannot be used.

I am using Office 2003 on my PC with Win 10. When I put it on a couple of years ago, I updated it with no problem.

Classic Shell has been replaced with Open Shell.

I am reluctant to try the new Open Shell since I use Classic Shell 4.3.1 from a saved installation file for that and since it works so well with Windows 10.
Do you know what improvements open shell has made?

Do you know what improvements open shell has made? It is the SAME program essentially but more up to date. Classic shell has not been updated to go along with updates of operating systems it serves since August of 2017. Open Shell is constantly being updated so it can be used with current updates of operating systems. The latest update for Open Shell was released October 24th, 2020. I have used Open shell since Classic Shell was discontinued and have had NO problems with it whatsoever. Updates have been released on a regular basis.

But if Classic Shell continues to work, why should I update to Open Shell?
As you can see I am having trouble using the "Quote" feature correctly.

The choice is yours, nobody is saying that you must update. Just know the chances of some sort of a problem with it are greater because you are running a 3 year old app.
When you use Quote you will see the message you are quoting appear in a box. Just make sure you put your cursor BELOW that box when you type and all will work well.

Thank you all for your valuable input. I reviewed all your posts and I want to let you know what I did with my new Laptop. I have OPEN SHELL and was able to install Works Suite 2002 onto my new Laptop. So I am so very happy. It all went smoothly.
Again, thanks for always being here and helping me. I truly appreciate your advice.

Happy to hear all went well Marie. It is always nice when we can keep using a program we are used to using.
