The volume on my computer is 100x louder with my earphones plugged in than with the speakers. Is there some setting I need to change so my volume with be louder without using the earphones?
I don't understand why there's such a huge difference in volume with the earplugs.

Is this a desktop or laptop? My laptop speakers are not nearly as loud as when I use earphones. I have speakers turned up to 100% but when I use the headphones I have them turned down to about 45%.

Well that is true on most PC's. Headphones the sound is already in your ears and speakers it has to travel to get there and looses some of it's volume.

It's the Dell laptop listed in my signature specs. Sounds like it's the 'norm'. Thanks for your replies.

There IS a difference between laptop built-in speakers and external speakers or headphones. You can plug in external speakers if you have them of course otherwise the sound will not be as good as it is on a desktop with external speakers or using headphones with the laptop.
