My brother (as well as a lot of people) uses Yahoo mail. Since the beginning when you hit send, you would get a popup that asks are you sure you want to send without a subject (if you did not put something in the subject line)? Lately he has not been getting that popup when he hits send and so it looks as though the e-mail was sent. What actually happens is it sends it to his drafts folder and he has to go there to send it. I suspect he may have accidentally hit or changed something to stop the popup window from coming up but he does not think he did.Is there a way to get the popup window (reminding him to put in a subject) to come back up? Please do not suggest just using a different e-mail client such as G-mail as he is set in his ways and only wants Yahoo mail.
Thanks to all, Paul
Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! I have experimented with Yahoo Mail trying to replicate this problem but the warning box always pops up. I have used a couple of different browsers and also the App on my iPad. I thought maybe popup blockers may have interfered with things but that does not seem to be the case.
I can find nothing relevant in settings.
Maybe suggest to your brother he try using an alternate browser and see if that helps

Thanks Everton. I did suggest that he use a different browser and he said the problem exists no matter which browser he is using. Nothing has changed in his browsers since I set them up for him a couple years ago. The problem just began about a month age.

What browsers is he using? What extensions are installed on them? Blocking pop ups are done with, besides a browser itself, any number of browser extensions. An update to one of the extensions could very well cause the blocking of pop ups. Have him run the browsers in browser safe mode, NOT computer safe mode, but browser safe mode. This allows the browser to run without any extensions working. If the the pop ups work then you will know that this is caused by one of the extensions and you'll have to narrow down which one and remove it. Of course, not being a smart aleck just making a suggestion, since he knows that this pop up should happen because he doesn't put anything in the subject line he could solve this easily by putting something in the subject line too.

Thanks Judy. You would have to know my brother. He is an extremely intelligent man but super stuck in his ways and stubborn. Also a bit lazy when it comes to his e-mail habits. I suggested he just put something in the subject line and he feels he should not have to start doing that since he always got the popup box and wants it back Go figure. I am not sure how to enter safe mode for just the browser. If you would let me know how, I will pass it on to him. He uses Firefox and Chrome browsers and claims it is happening on both and also is convinced that it is something wrong with Yahoo.
Thank you,
Paul

Paul, has he checked the pop up settings in both of those browsers? Both Firefox and Chrome now automatically block pop ups. He would have to go into each and ALLOW those pop ups from Yahoo mail specifically. Otherwise he will not get those and likely as not, since he refuses to put something in the subject line, those mails will continue to be moved to drafts. He is lucky they are going to drafts and they are not being deleted really. I of course don't know who he mails but many individuals, I know several people, do not open an email that doesn't have a subject line, they just delete them. Many companies also do not open emails without a subject listed, they have settings where they are just automatically deleted...just saying.
As to opening the browsers in their safe mode which is often recommended when troubleshooting a problem with it or an extension. Safe mode disables ALL extensions and then you can often figure out which extension is causing the problem. I don't know that Chrome even has this option since I've never used Chrome and cannot find instructions that say safe mode in Chrome is an option. But Safe Mode in Firefox is Super easy. Just go up to Help, choose Restart with add-ons disabled. You will get a pop up asking if you wish to do this and of course you say yes. The browser will close and reopen without add-ons so it likely will look somewhat different. You CAN use it as normal however. Have him send a mail and see if the pop up appears. If so then it is likely he has an extension causing the "problem". He'll have to narrow down which one is causing this and either remove it or update it. If he finds one then he likely has it installed on both browsers. BUT as I said, BOTH Chrome and Firefox are set automatically to block pop ups and it is up to the user to go into settings and enable whichever site wanted to have pop ups allowed

Paul if your brother is convinced the Yahoo site is at fault send him here and suggest he works through the list uk.help.yahoo.com/kb/new-mail-for-desktop/fix-problems-yahoo-website-isnt-working-sln2891.htmlAlso enquire if his Yahoo Mail is up to date - there is a Basic Mail and a newer version. If he is using Basic it may help if he switches to the later one although I have to say I have tried both versions still trying to replicate the non appearance of the warning box for no subject and it appears on both in a slightly different format. It is very easy to switch between versions and can easily revert to preferred one.

You say "Nothing has changed in his browsers since I set them up for him a couple years ago." Does this also mean that NO updating has been done to these browsers? Each one of these browsers has had a multitude of updates, which ARE needed, in the last two years. Firefox has had over 27 version changes in two years and Chrome has had the same. If his browsers are not 100% up to date then the least of his problems or concerns would be poorly working yahoo mail. The bulk of browser updates involve security. Also, Everton and I have discussed this, does he empty his email or does he keep it forever? Email programs are not designed to keep the mail forever. Each program does work differently but in most cases if the In and Sent boxes get too full then things will slow and with some programs stop working correctly. Maybe this is the case with his Yahoo, maybe his sent box is too full so the program won't send, therefore no pop up about the subject line and the only place for the mail to go is the Drafts box.
