Having problems with both FireFox Ver 88.0 & Thunderbird. FF crashes often and now I can't open TB. Should I switch browsers and mail program? If so what do you recommend?
Thanks DICK

I don't use Thunderbird so I cannot really advise on that but hopefully can help with Firefox.
How long have these problems been happening?
Did you quit or shut down Thunderbird as the message appears to recommend?
Have you tried a full reset of Firefox?
Judging by the Firefox pages a TAB was the cause of the problem. What page were you viewing when this happened? How many tabs did you have open at the time?
Have you or do you totally shut down your computer? Totally close ALL programs and then do a total shut down of the computer. Reboot and try Firefox again. What av program do you use? What other programs are running while you are trying to use Firefox and/or Thunderbird?

Thanks Eve, I always forget that!!
Avast could also be the cause of your problems. There have been known problems in the past with Avast and these two programs especially when any one of the three have updated.
I would suggest that you turn off Avast entirely and see if the problems persist.
You truly do not need a 3rd party av program or a 3rd party firewall if you are also using the Avast firewall. Why? because you are using Windows 10 and it's built in Windows Security program is one of the best available
I have used only this excellent built in Security since purchasing my first Windows 10 computer.

jholland1964 This dummy needs help!!! I went to the page in your link and never did find where to download Defender. Lots of info about it that just confused me. Page says it's for Microsoft365. Also shows Defender for Endpoint. Still no download links. I'm completely lost. Thanks DICK

You don't need to download it. It is already on your computer. All Windows 10 computers come with Windows Defender installed. When you install a 3rd party AV program like Avast then Windows Defender automatically turns off.
Just Totally uninstall Avast by using Add/Remove and to be sure it is gone then use this utility
to be certain it is all gone and Windows Defender should automatically turn back on.

I had a hard time getting into safe mode. Searched for"how to" and Microsoft site gave directions and that worked BUT couldn't find the download. Decided to try it in regular mode and it started and then said it was best to run it in safe mode with a link to get there. Clicked and it ran. Thought this info might help someone in the future.
I now have "Windows Firewall with Advanced Security" in my program list. Is that all I need or are there settings I need to play with. Also is the 'firewall' an antivirus also?
Many Thanks, DICK

Go to Settings, Updates and Security. When that opens go to Windows Security and you should see exactly what my attachment shows. Let me know if it does not. If it does then that is ALL YOU NEED. Attachments:

Then it is likely the problem is with Mozilla itself, both Firefox and Thunderbird. I would guess the problem is Add-ons with each one. I would advise the following:
First do a Refresh of Firefox as directed on this page
I would suggest you check Thunderbird by loading it ins Safe Mode...this is THUNDERBIRD safe mode, not the computer. This will load it without any add-ons. If it works ok then that tells you the problem is with an add-on, which is the likely reason for most Thunderbird crashes. Also make sure you have the very latest version which is 78 I believe
Instructions on how to work with Thunderbird in Safe Mode
