Budgal Thanks for the suggestion. Some info sites said page not found. Only one that said anything : Support ended Oct. 2020. Upgrade to Microsoft 365. I don't have Cd for the 2010 program and can't find the license number and program is old. Don't want to put out money for MS. I have just downloaded Free Office. I will try to see if I can open the files with the plan maker spread sheet and make copies to that program. Hard at 83 to grasp some of this stuff easily. Will have to try and figure out Free office and work with that at this point. If anyone has some other suggestions would appreciate them. Char

I use Softmaker Office 2021 (paid version) but they do have a free version which I used prior upgrading to the paid version. There are a lot of free Office Suite available. Another good one is Libre Office.

Budgall & Everton Thanks for information. I downloaded SoftMaker Free office 2018. It seems to be able to open my Microsoft Excel Starter 2010 files which I could not access, which was very important to me. Will be trying to see how I can transfer it to use in this program. Any help appreciated.
Budgall was there some reason you went from the free version to paid? I haven't been able to really check it out much, but is the Text Maker & Plan Maker similar to the micro Soft programs? I don't need complicated things, simple text documents that I can also copy from the internet info into my doc. for my reference. Make up my spread sheet to keep records of information or to calculate things where I only have to change one entry and it will recalculate down the page. Will this free program do this for me?
If there isn't something I can figure out in this program could I get some help from you and if so would I start another thread?
Everton thanks for the options you have offered me. Can't say how much I appreciate the help I get here. Thanks Char

I am a big believer in supporting software developers who create software I use and like. Years ago I got tired of the Microsoft bloat and cost so I looked for a replacement. After trying many alternate Office suites I decided on the free version of Softmaker Office Suite. I found it was very compatible with Microsoft Office files and it fit my needs for an office suite. In time, Softmaker will offer you the opportunity to upgrade to the paid version (currently Softmaker Office Suite 2021) at a discounted price. The free version is usually several versions back.
For the uses you describe, the free version should be able to work for you. If you need help, the documentation for the Suite is pretty good, the one time I requested help from Softmaker I was very pleased with the support I received. Don't remember if it was before or after I bought the paid version and yes feel free to contact me for help. You can use the built in message system of this forum to message me.

I endorse budgall’s recommendation of Softmaker. I also use it but have no need for the excel component. I use the Free Office version which is enough for my needs. Here is a chart showing the comparisons between the two. NZ$3.99 a month seems very reasonable if the extra components and support are a requirement. www.softmaker.com/en/comparison-freeoffice-softmaker-office

Budgall & Everton again thanks for the added information. After some experimenting I was able to produce a spreadsheet in Plan Maker and open the Excel spreadsheet through plan maker, copy & past to the new spreadsheet. I have a large number of documents that I was not able to open. Is there a quicker way of changing them to plan maker format so I can open and update them? As always thankful for all your help Char

I have never met an Excel document that I could not open with Plan Maker. I have seen some formulas that needed to be fixed. Remember I use the up to date paid version, it could be that the free version does not recognize all the Microsoft formats that the paid version does. What file extension does the files you cannot load have?
To save loaded files in Plan Maker format you just need to save the file using the Plan maker file extension .pmdx. However, if you wish you can leave the file with the Microsoft extension.

Budgall, maybe I didn't explain clearly. Couldn't open files which were listed under Microsoft Excel Work Sheet by just clicking on it. Had to left click and open under Plan Maker. Now I see I would then click on the file tab and click save as and change to the plan maker .pmdx . That will be so much quicker then having to copy and paste the file. I have forgotten how to do so many things in the last year. (don't know if it is partly having had Covid, or just advancing age. Thank you Char

Thanks to everyone for your prayers. It means a week trip and 4 days traveling which we are not looking forward too. 1st step out into this upside world. It is scary, that first trip outside for sure but just wear your mask, even if others don't have one on, and you will be fine. Continued prayers for you and your family. Judy
