The one year anniversary of the purchase of my Dell laptop is rapidly approaching and the end of all the freebies. I do not want to subscribe to McAfee which I have been using and want to use Windows Defender which I have seen highly recommended here. Is there anything special I should do to remove all traces of it from my computer other just clicking uninstall?
That is the only freebie I have used. I installed Libre Office right after I got the laptop and used it from day 1 because that is what I had been using before.
I am open to any other suggestions you my have.

Just do an uninstall of McAfee. I would first check the McAfee website to see if they have an uninstaller program that will completely uninstall the product. Once it is uninstalled Windows should automatically activate Windows Defender for you.

The uninstaller is built into McCrappy. Just uninstall it. Nothing to download.

How did it go? Did Windows Security turn itself on?

Everything went very well. Now I don't have McAfee popping up all the time trying to get me to extend the service with them. I like having Windows Defender. Did a full scan after I had it running. Thank you for checking back with me, MrBill.
