I'm changing providers to one with a far more generous data allowance and also getting a new phone. I do intend to go online with this phone far more than I do now. I'd welcome opinions on how big an SD card I should put in it.

Brand phone? Presuming not iPhone as can't add a micro SD card to them... my last Android phone was a Galaxy S4 and max micro SD (Secure Digital) card I could (and did) add to it was 64 GB to double the internal 64GB drive.... I added lots of photos but no music files and still had gads of space left when changed to an iPhone couple years later... literature for new phone likely will identify max sized card you'll be able to add ... know you like your music so expect you would want to go big on size to have lot of music with you as you go about your daily adventures ...

It's a Samsung J3. It only has 8GB internal storage but it can accommodate a 128 GB card. I'm actually thinking 32GB (these cards aren't what I'd call cheap). I'm not planning on using it as a walkman because I am quite determined not to become one of those mindless automatons whose world is ruled by their phone, and also I really can't tolerate those bloody earbuds. I have a USB stick in my car with 500+ music tracks on it, and that's only an 8GB stick. I am planning to use the camera a bit, but my PC will always be my primary storage medium for those worth keeping. Thanks for your input. It has helped.

Your welcome Paul.... sounds like a good idea, especially with your backup practices of saving in several places and devices. No need for an expensive or massive capacity ... Cell phones are convenient as many users tend to have phone with them nearly at all times, but there is more to life than having one of these contraptions growing in our hands or onto our ears. We only use cellular and is nice to have with us while traveling in retirement, but there are times you don't want the spammers and scammers to interrupt the enjoyment of the beauty of this world..<grin>.... Enjoy your new phone and service.
