Hello Everyone - I hope you are all enjoying our new home. I did want to take a moment to mention attachments to posts. We are running on a free plan so our allotment of space for attachments is limited. Therefore, unless absolutely necessary, attachments should be minimal in your posts. There are other storage plans available, however they are costly. We could switch to a paid plan and all share the burden of the cost, however I am not sure anyone really wants that. If you are interested in what the cost would be, feel free to contact me. Personal photos that are your own work are fine, however the posting of images found off the internet, and/or copyrighted images, will not be permitted. Ultimately, it is my name associated with this site and while I like all of you, I am not willing to take on the expense of a copyright infringement suit should someone lodge one.

The prohibition of copyrighted images is a rule of ProBoards itself
Please note that this also applies to the quoting of articles in your posts, don't post the whole article, just a sentence or two along with a link to the article.

All makes sense, but would have thought animated gifs would be the worse offender for bandwidth usage,so nothing personal so why use animated Avatar?

All makes sense, but would have thought animated gifs would be the worse offender for bandwidth usage,so nothing personal so why use animated Avatar? Storage space and bandwidth are not the same thing. Storage space is the total amount of space on a server where you can store files, especially those used on your website. Storage space is like a filing cabinet in your office. Bandwidth is the amount of data transfer that occurs between the website and the people viewing the web site. They are not the same thing. Bandwidth usually will be larger than the amount of storage space by quite a bit in order to allow for the information stored on the server to be transferred to those visiting the web site. My avatar is a little over 16 kb and the ProBoard allowed size is 1MB max I am well within the size limits dictated by ProBoards but of course would remove it if there is disapproval.

Was just a question, as a couple of other forums I belong to ask not to use animated gifs, although the picture itself is only small it is actually several frames that continually loop therefore using bandwidth ALL the time. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than me can say if this the case or not?,not for me to say remove it or not, just thought it was relevant to your original post.

Supported avatar formats: .gif .jpeg .jpg .png 150px by 150px recommended. Only rules as far as animated gifs in avatars is ones that flash or sparkle cannot be used because those can actually cause seizures to those with epilepsy and can cause difficulties for some persons with specific vision disorders. As long as avatars meet the size requirements, no larger than 150px by 150px then animated avatars are allowed on ProBoards. If they were not allowed then I would not and could not have used this avatar. I did not make the original post here, that came from Crash. I just posted the section concerning the prohibition of posting copyrighted materials.

Ok seems must be OK then, but I often wonder animated Avatars and other Gifs are used in Signatures etc,I for one find them most annoying when reading a posts, mind you some are worse than others,Dancing cats or lightning flashing just for example..the good thing for me is with Adblock Plus can just right click them and choose "Adblock plus image" and gone! Please don`t take this as personal criticism of your choice, just my observation and opinion.
