It has been so long since I have been here I've forgotten even what to do. Large font so I can read what I write. Short time on internet and all the other things we oldies have to face.
Way back someone here was so helpful when I was either looking for a new camera or having trouble with my old one, I'm back to ask for help again. You recommended a Cannon Power Shot A2200 and I have just loved it. I pulled it out yesterday and opps something was not right. Message Lens error will shut down automatically. Restart camera. Figuring I couldn't do much harm I wiped around the parts that come out with denatured alcohol. At least I was able to get it to retract. Any help would be appreciated although I figure it's life is at an end. Sooo Since looking on the net I figure this model is obsolete, can you recommend a camera similar in size and capability and not too expensive. Thanks for listening, hope for some suggestions and every one stay save out there. Char

How long have you had this camera? Are you certain the recommendation came from here? This forum is only 3 years old and I cannot find any threads where you requested advice on a camera. I pretty much now use my phone to take pictures so can't really give advice on a new camera. I am sure others will be able to do that.
Have you changed batteries? Very often odd messages appear if batteries are low and need changing. I also checked manual for your camera and it says that this error can also be caused by dirt and dust so cleaning was a good idea. You can also call CANON product help at this number, 9am to 9pm; 1-800-652-2666

As you like the camera I would certainly try to fix the problem before investing in a new one. There are heaps of suggestions here.
I hope there may be something that will work for you

Thanks everyone I will try out your suggestions. Judy I have had the camera since 8/11, so it was when we were all on Worldstart. I did change the battery, and wiped around the parts that come out with denatured alcohol. I have a flip phone not a smart phone. Can take pictures, but I know nothing about being able to download or anything else on it, so a camera has been my best bet. I've never been the best with new tech. but can usually follow simple directions which is why when I get in a spot I have come the this site and worldstart before this because everyone has been so helpful. With age things become harder and harder. If I can not get it working will someone recommend another camera so I can be on the look out for best deal out there. Thanks Char

If you want to stay with a with Canon point and shoot the PowerShot Elph 180 / IXUS 185 gets good reviews on these two sites www.digitalcameraworld.com/au/buying-guides/best-point-and-shoot-cameras
www.lifewire.com/best-new-canon-cameras-493499
At a higher price is the Canon PowerShot G9X Mark II
I have used a Panasonic TZ60 for several years and I love it. I believe it is known as a ZS40 is the US. It is more expensive than the canon powers shots but you may be able to get a good deal as it has been around for several years.
When buying a new camera it is always a good idea to go to a good camera shop and see what a camera feels like in your hand. Also you can get advice from the sales person what will suit your needs.
When I purchased my Canon EOS 450D a small Canon Power Shot A580 was offered as a bonus at a very reasonable cost. I got it and my husband has used it ever since (2008) - its a fine little workhorse and does take great pictures even though it is just 8MP, so I think its a good advertisment for the Power Shot series. www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-Digital-Camera-Optical/dp/B0012YA4YK
(Another consideration may be to upgrade your phone to a smart phone - most take great photos.)

Thanks to everyone. Everton the suggestion for a fix was great I didn't even get through the list given. Removed Batter & card. Used denatured alcohol on any connection & around the retractable part and used endust to blow around the cracks. Everything worked fine, but on turning it on again it went back to the error. Now sometimes it works ok and next it may not. I will try repeating what I have done and also check down the rest of the list on the site in hopes that the fix will be permanent. Meanwhile I appreciate the new camera information. If I can find one reasonable enough a back up might be a good idea. Thanks so much for all the help. It gives me hope that this camera may not yet be doomed . Thanks Char

Are you certain the battery is fully charged ? could it possibly need replacing ? Does the indicator show that it is charged ? I Would imagine an error message would appear if that was the case though. it seems odd that sometimes it works and sometimes not.
good luck
