Our first batch of vaccine only arrived in the country a couple of days ago. We have been very fortunate in that we have escaped the bad situations many of you endure BUT we are now back in lockdown due to community cases being detected at the weekend. Hopefully they can be traced to the source and our lockdown rules will help us avoid further restrictions. Four is the highest level - the City where the cases are (Auckland) is on Level 3 and the rest of us on Level 2 which does not pose many problems but still many complain. First to be vaccinated here will be quarantine workers, then other health and essential workers. The general public will likely not have it offered until later in the year. I shall be in the queue as soon as I qualify.

I'm curious to know your reasoning.

Wonder same thing.
It has been proven that the vaccines do work and chance of infection is less than 5% after both shots are received. Even with just the first shot gives over 50% protection. I've known several people who have gotten covid before vaccines were available and it sure isn't something I want to take the chance of getting. One lady is 70, she was in the hospital 45 days, 22 of those on a vent. After that she was in rehab for 15 days. A fellow in superb condition, a policeman, was in the hospital 20 days, 6 on a vent. When he was released he was off duty for 25 more days. He now has a heart condition he didn't have prior to covid. He is 45 years old. Another gal is 42, she had covid and never had to be hospitalized but was confined alone to her home for 3 weeks. She finally tested negative but now has lung damage and is on two different inhalers 4 times daily. She finds it difficult to walk from one end of her house to the other and it is a small house.
No way am I taking a chance.
Our second shots scheduled for today have been delayed due to weather....12 inches of snow! Vaccine clinics closed today. Only driving by emergency vehicles and plows allowed. Our shots will be rescheduled ASAP.

Friends of ours who are in the early fifties have both succumbed to the virus. She contracted it at her work, she being employed by a local supermarket chain. About 20 staff all tested positive for the virus and unfortunately, she brought it home and passed it on to her husband. She spent 3 weeks in hospital, he managed to stay at home. They both now have long term lung damage.
It annoys me that some people are still in denial that a pandemic even exists!

I don't understand it either and totally ticks me off, they are putting EVERYBODY else at risk!!!! Many are these QAnon people and they believe there are lasers in the sky causing forest fires in California...so are we surprised they don't believe in the pandemic?

Because I DO NOT believe their numbers. I had 1 flu shot in my life and that was the sickest I have ever been. Never again. I am almost 80 and had the shot when I was 77 and that was the only time. I am not saying it is real or fake, but every day it is a different story. Wear a mask, no don't wear one. Wear 2 masks then no don't.

Certainly not worth getting in an argument. I wish you & those you come in contact with well and do hope you can stay healthy. I believe in science and what science is telling us. Every country in the world has this infection and places where the vaccines and masking are strictly applied are having excellent results. So I will follow science.

Some countries are doing less well than others. I know I am fortunate to live where I do. I don’t understand some of the lockdown criteria in place in some areas. Here in NZ lockdown was real lockdown and it worked. I read about people being in lockdown but able to Order takeaway food. Makes no sense to me. I’ll be having the vaccine if and when it’s offered to me, not just to protect myself but to help prevent being responsible for passing the virus on to someone else who may be extra vulnerable due to existing health issues. I’ve had flu injections every year for decades and have never had the flu or had adverse effects. I’ve had coughs and colds a couple of times in the winter but not influenza. Please stay safe and well everyone.

I had influenza years ago when I was pregnant with our 2nd daughter. I was sick for three weeks, in bed, could do nothing. Had to send our oldest to friends house because my husband worked nights and I couldn't take care of her. It was Awful! Being pregnant had nothing to do with how bad I felt, my uncle had it at the same time and he was just as sick as I was. So I always have gotten a flu shot. I remember when the polio vaccine came out, what a relief. We lived across the street from the hospital and people lined up for 3 blocks in front of our house to get their polio shots. My sister had polio the year before the vaccine was released but thankfully she had no paralysis, just very sick. Those of us who lived through polio every summer remember how awful it was...closed swimming pools, parks, movie theaters. It was awful.
My husband & I got our 2nd shots today. 1 shot gives 52% immunity and the 2nd one within 10 to 14 days gives you 95% immunity. What a relief! My daughter is an elementary school teacher, finally her governor has said that teachers would now be counted as essential workers and should start getting shots within 2 weeks. She can't wait to get back in the classroom. Zoom classes aren't real easy with 26 second graders.
