Hi everybody.
We've just bought a new laptop to replace Gail's tired old beast. She only uses it for browsing and email. The old machine had Windows Live Mail 2012. The new one has (just called) Mail.
I note in a recent thread Everton is using this new Mail client, so hopefully you'll be able to help me.
Can we create user-defined sub-folders in this new Mail program? This is sort of answered in the link provided by Everton in that recent thread. However it only seems to work in IMAP accounts, but not in POP3, which is where we need sub-folders.
My general impression of this new client is that it has been over-simplified.

Unfortunately that is the case Paul. I am using POP3 and because I also need sub folders I have left my main email account on Thunderbird and use Mail for a second account where extra folders are not required. If you haven’t already, you may want to consider Mozilla Thunderbird.

Possibly down the track - but this is for Gail, not me, and at this stage she's got enough to learn with an updated OS and browser without trying to introduce her to an email client I'm not familiar with myself. At least I've finally talked her into using tabs in her browser! Thanks for the confirmation.

See on the link that Mailbird is one of those recommended. I have used it since I got my Windows 10. I use the Free version. You CAN do as Paul wishes and that is create sub folders and use pop mail. It really is very similar to WLM

Here is a comparison between Mailbird and Thunderbird. My other half uses Mailbird (so on principle I have to favour Thunderbird lol) Both are easy to set up and operate. www.softwarehow.com/mailbird-vs-thunderbird/
Edit: Oops I made a mistake - the one my husband uses is SeaMonkey Mail (another option!)
I am unable to find any free version of Mailbird.

I am unable to find any free version of Mailbird. Whoops, you are right Eve, Mailbird is no longer Free. I received a Free license lifetime license from the company because I had used it almost since the beginning of its original release. Current home price is $39 (US) per year for Unlimited email accounts.
Sorry I gave incorrect info. I forgot they had given me the free lifetime license.

I'm trying Thunderbird now, but it won't import my old emails from Outlook (2016 version from Office) even though it recognises I have Outlook. So probably not for me/us.

Paul if you will try exporting and then importing your old addresses from Outlook as vcf and/or LDIF my experience tells me that it will work for Thunderbird.

Paul if you will try exporting and then importing your old addresses from Outlook as vcf and/or LDIF my experience tells me that it will work for Thunderbird. Addresses aren't the problem. I want to import all my old emails. They can only be exported from Outlook as .pst or .csv files, Thunderbird acknowledges the presence of Outlook, but attempts in Thunderbird to import them results in:- "Unable to find mail to import. Check to ensure the mail application is correctly installed on this machine." But thanks for trying.

This google page has several options to convert pst files to mbox. Thunderbird stores its mail files as mbox.

One of these two links may help.
