I don't have or use a Microsoft account so it doesn't matter to me really. I never have used it because of the password requirement. But I still can't see myself using a Microsoft account anyway. As the article linked states; "passwords are a cybersecurity minefield" too many people don't use them correctly as it is. It truly doesn't matter to me.

I don't use a Microsoft account either to log in. I do have several and only use them if asked for it by the Microsoft Insider Program which is not often. Some features in Windows 11 require a Microsoft account to use them. Widgets and Microsoft Teams are two of the Windows 11 features that require the user to be signed with their Microsoft Account. One may also be required to do a clean Windows 11 install and maybe even an upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 however, when I installed the latest Windows 11 pre release in a Virtual Computer last week I was able to complete the installation without using a Microsoft Account.

It's not so easy now to set up Windows 10 without a MS account. You need one before a local account can be created. I use one. I have it for Skype and OneDrive. I have a complicated secure password and I sign in to my computer with a 4 digit PIN, which is not time consuming. Looks like I'll need to continue with a password as using Remote Desktop (I need it for my work) is one of the preclusions mentioned, if I am understanding it correctly. My machine stays on unless I am away for a length of time so logging in once in a while isn't any hardship. I have a local account for my laptop, but I need to log in to my MS account if I want to use it for Skyping. The Windows 11 requirement is a non issue for me as me perfectly good and well-functioning all-in-one PC does not meet the standards MS are asking, so I shall stay with Windows 10 for the duration of MS support or until my PC bites the dust, whichever comes first
