Yesterday Microsoft released Windows 11. Last night I downloaded it the .ISO file and created both a bootable DVD and a bootable flash drive. Prior to downloading I mistakenly clicked the Windows 11 Update Assistant Icon which actually does more than assist you in the installation of Windows 11, it installs it. So I ended up with Windows 11 installed on my computer. After logging on the computer I hurried over to the recovery section of settings and tested out the roll back feature to return to Windows 10. I'm very pleased to report that the recovery worked and the computer is now back running Windows 10. The recovery took only a few minutes to complete.
At this time I have no plans on moving from Windows 10 to Windows 11. I will be installing it in a Virtual Box on one my computers so I will have a working copy available for testing and customer support.
Over the next few months Microsoft will be offering you the update through Windows Update if your computer is compatible to the Windows 11 specs. It's my understanding that once offered you have to approve the installation of the update before it will install on your computer. Remember Windows 10 is still supported by Microsoft and will continue to be supported until late 2025.
In prior posts I said that Windows 11 was "Windows 10 in a new dress". Other people called Windows 11 "Windows 10 with a new coat of paint". There is no need to rush to Windows 11, my recommendation is to wait a while. Let the paint dry. If you decide to update, be smart and make a complete system backup (clone) of your current system before updating. Prior history of new versions of Windows show that Microsoft releases a good version of it's operating system followed by a troublesome system. Windows 10 was in my opinion a good version. Time will tell what Windows 11 will be.
