I just built a new desktop for a friend. Once I was done building and was loading Win 10, I called him and asked what he wanted for a pin and a password which I entered. Now, after using it for a few days, he has decided he does not want to have to enter anything anymore. He just wants it to come up to the desktop when he turns it on. I walked him through sign in options and got his pin removed but now he has to put his password instead of pin when he turns the computer on. Well, I took him back to sign in options and had him click on change password this time. He put his current password in and hit next but when it takes him to the new password screen, since he does not want a password he just hit next but it keeps saying this is required information and will not let him proceed. Any suggestions how to take his current pass out?
TIA
Paul

If I am reading this correctly your friend doesn't want to have to log on when turning on his computer, he just wants to turn it on and use it essentially. If so there are several ways to eliminate required sign in to use the computer, the easiest way is remove sigin in password protection from the user account settings. To do this First of course turn on the computer and sign in. Once the desktop screen turns up, press "Windows + R" key combination to open "Run" dialogue box at the left side corner of the desktop screen. When that opens type netplwiz and then hit Enter.
The settings window of "User Account" will open and you can then modify the settings of accounts on the computer. Under the "Users" tab, all your registered accounts will be displayed. Highlight the account that you wish to bypass the sign-in of and then uncheck the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box. When you uncheck this specific option. Click Apply button and the password prompting facility should automatically be disabled. Tell him after doing this to shut down and restart the computer and see if it works. He should be able to power up the computer and it should go straight to the desktop.

Once again Judy, you have come to the rescue. It used to be a lot easier than this. Before, you could just go to user accounts and change your password to no password and be done with it. Why Microsoft decided to make it more complicated is unknown to me. Anyway, your instructions worked and he is very happy! You are the best.
Thank you,
Paul

I don't use the sign in password either. Microsoft changed this to give users enhanced security reasons and for those in business or office settings this is important but for those of us at home who are the only users of the computer then yes, it can be a pain but at least there is a fairly easy way to turn this off. Glad your friend is pleased and that he has a friend who is able to build him a desktop.
