I have Avira Free Antivirus on my Laptop....Windows 7.0 Professional and everything has been running smoothly. Yesterday and today a little file jumps up on the lower right hand corner of my computer from Avira saying "that I should scan my computer because of my Registery etc............ If it happens again I will get the full statement. So, of course, I scan and everything is fine...then I CClean my computer and everything is fine...Has this happen to anyone else? Should I be worried....I only want Avira Free....! Any in;put from you all will be appreciated. Thank You .....Marie

I've used Avira Free for years and I don't recall getting a message like that but of course I may have at some time. If you can get the full text of the message and then I can better help. In the meantime, why not do our Preliminary Steps just to be certain there is not a problem. If there is some sort of questionable file then doing those steps will help remove whatever it might be. Once you've completed all the steps come back here and copy/paste the logs from Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, AdwCleaner and Junkware Removal tool. Please be sure to copy/paste the logs do not attach.

Your post seems to suggest that you are still using Windows 7. Is that correct?

BigBarney....Yes, I am still using Windows 7 Professional on my laptop.. Have you begun following the steps given on our Preliminary Cleanup Steps as requested last night? I have to stress IF there is perhaps malware on your computer that is triggering these alerts by Avira the longer you wait the stronger the chance the problem could get worse.

Until you do follow all of the steps in our Preliminary Cleanup Steps and post the logs there is very little that can be suggested. This message Does very often indicate malware is on the machine and attempting to access and infect the registry. Avira IS doing what it is supposed to do, block those attempts, but Avira or any other anti-virus program for that matter, is not set up to remove PUP's (Potentially Unwanted Programs) the programs requested in our Preliminary Cleanup steps ARE exactly the programs needed. If you do not use those then the malware will continue to work in the back ground bringing in other malware which possibly is why you are getting these Alerts from Avira...each time a new piece of malware is brought it then Avira has to stop its access to the Registry. It Does NOT remove that malware, just blocks its access to the registry. The longer they stay the more danger your computer is in. We do have to see the logs from those Preliminary Steps programs before we can offer any more help.

Thanks jHolland....but I am an 81 young woman...and I ran Ccleaner and Malware...the other options are too complicated for me. I am taking it to a computer man. Thanks...Marie...Why do bad things happen to good people...I don't understand it! Oh cricketm, the other two programs are much easier to run than Malwarebytes. I PROMISE. We make every effort to use programs that are super easy, NOT complicate to be able to work with everybody. You CAN do this your self...for FREE, and not have to pay somebody $50 or more to do things you can do in really just a very few minutes....Truly, that is all this will take. Take it to a shop and you'll have to pay for just a few minutes of very easy work. CCleaner just cleans out general unnecessary junk, no need to say what was cleaned but did Malwarebytes' find anything? If so I can tell you how to tell us what was found and removed.

Update on my problem with Avira popups of Malware and/Registry etc......
I took my Laptop to Staples and had a very knowledgeable Computer Tech completely checked and scanned my computer for viruses, malware, etc with a tool. My computer was completely cleaned. He removed Avira Free Antivirus and recommended and added Panda Free Anti-Virus. He was very professional and helpful...and would not charge me. Plus, I tried to tip him with $25.00 for his lunch but he would not take it and said it was Staples policy that no tipping was allowed. I found the experience with Staples here on Long Island, New York very pleasant and would definitely return for my computer problems. As a matter of fact there was three Computer Techs that helped me with my problem and I was there for over an hour. Thank you again for your input and advice...I truly appreciate it. There are good people out there you just have to look for them...

Glad you were able to find a kind tech who was willing to help you without charge, that is wonderful and glad and all is well with your computer too. Not sure why he would have you remove Avira Free in favor of Panda Free as they have nearly identical scores on the AV Comparitives independent testing. Panda beat Avira by .3% Avira Free ranked at the top of the AV-Testing independent testing, Panda did not submit their program for testing there. But at least Panda is a good program too.
