Open Office & PDF program help I put open office on my computer awhile back. Now they are offering a free PDF program. But ask for your email and where you are located . being these programs (Soft Maker) come from Germany, without offending anyone, is it safe to use them or am I better off starting over and going to maybe Libre office?
With the PDF program are you able to edit and change things in them without a charge? With PDF program I now use it you want to edit or whatever you have to sign up for a pay program. Thanks for any help you can give me. Char

Where did you get Open Office? It is NOT from Soft Maker. Open Office comes from Apache Open Office. org it IS a FREE office suite as is their PDF extension. Their PDF extension comes from PDF Import for Apache OpenOffice
The program from Softmaker is called Softmaker Office and it offers a 30 day free trial and after that the home version is $29 per year. Their new PDF program is called FlexiPDF and it also is NOT free. They have the free trial and then it also costs $29 per year.

Soft Maker Office Suite (paid version)is currently at version 2021 Revison 1044 dated 3/22/2022. It is my Offfice Suite of choice. In the past I have used the free version but converted to the paid version when the 2020 version was released. They do have a PDF program called PlexiPDF which is also good. I do have a licensed copy of the 2019 version of it. They also have a free version. I have no problems recommending Soft Maker Products.

I don't have problems recommending either Bud, I made my post because the OP Char374 has confused one with the other OR rather than use the Apache PDF editor that goes with Apache OpenOffice is wanting to use the one from Softmaker. I also don't know if she is using the Free Apache OpenOffice or if she is using the Paid Softmaker Office Suite.

My guess would be she is using the free version as I did for long time. After a while she may receive an offer to upgrade to the paid version at a very low cost which is when purchased the paid version. Same is true with the PlexiPDF program, stated with the free and then took advantage of a low cost upgrade offer. My PDF program needs are few, mostly reading PDF files. I think every computer I have has a different PDF program on it. Like I said above I like and recommend Soft Maker, good software and excellent quick tech support if needed.

Thanks for any help you can give me. Char Char ... to answer your question about the free open source program " Libre Office", yes you can use it to edit a .pdf article/document on your computer and save it as a .pdf article to print, email as an attachment, or whatever your needs are... all free, or welcome to make a donation to the www.libreoffice.org/download/download/ organization if you are able or desire. Several years ago after an internal disagreement at "OpenOffice.org" some bright folks broke away and started the Libre Office open source project, "LibreOffice.org". I switched to it years ago and now enjoy using on an Apple MacBook platform with the Apple operating system and on some Windows platform computers with Windows 10 operating system as well... With a lot of volunteer projects I have need to edit some .pdf reports, and enjoy using Libre Office for doing so frequently.... You can download it free at www.libreoffice.org/download/download/, (link shows MacOS version since I'm typing on my MacBook, but you can select your Windows 32 or 64 bit operating system using the down arrow on the page as it directs you to do), install and begin using immediately.. That page has lots of helpful links on it for your comfortable enjoyment. As with similar programs it is quite similar to the various Microsoft Office programs. As others have mentioned there are many out there in cyberspace and just a matter of trying out and finding one you are comfortable with. As with all open source programs, the cost is your choice and what you are voluntarily comfortable with. That idea is how open source groups began with that financial thought..... Dependent on space on your device(s) you can have more than one office type program on your machine and use at your choice, or eliminate all but one that you are comfortable with.. your choice....... Main thing is to be comfortable and enjoy your computer and documentation usage . I like the KISS system ( Keep It Simple Stupid) and so love Libre Office for my personal usage and to recommend since I only recommend free products primarily...

The best PDF reader and editor I have used so far comes with Microsoft Edge Browser.
