Here is a real perplexing problem for you: My older brother was doing the latest update on his ASUS E403SA laptop running win 10 64 bit and got frustrated when it had not finished in what he felt was a reasonable time so he held the power button in and did a hard power off. After a couple days, he turned it back on and now it will not pick up his ASUS router. All his other wireless equipment still connects to and works fine with the router. He to it to the shop at the PX on base and as soon as they turned it on, it picked up their router and connected to the internet just fine so they asked him to bring his router and the laptop back together so they could look at it together. He is not yet ready to unhook everything and take it to them so I asked if he would mail it to me and I would take a look. When I received it, I turned it on and it picked up my ASUS router (different model from his) right away and went online just fine. All I did was go to the ASUS web sight and download the latest wireless driver and chipset and installed them. I also install a wireless usb adapter I had and it connects fine also. I sent it back to him and he said it still does not see his router with the built in card but the adapter I installed works flawlessly.
Also, before he sent it to me, I asked him if he tried going back to a time through system restore before he did the hard power off. He said he did not know how to do that but did reinstall windows from the hard drive (also did not choose to keep files and folders) and it still would not see his router. He is happy with it right now due to using the USB wireless adapter for online activity.
It still has me going crazy as to why it will not see his router with the built in card but sees everybody else's. I really do not know where to go from here so if any of y'all have a suggestion, I am eternally grateful!!
Thanks to everyone in advance.
Paul

As always Judy, you have provided some very insightful information. Since I am in NC and my brother is in FL, I will forward him the link and tell him to call me with help following some of the steps if he needs. I do not know how soon he will get to it but will post back when he has tried all the thoughts in the link. You are certainly an angel in disguise Judy. Thank you and have a great summer (well soon to start summer)

Have you ran the network troubleshooter? Have you done a network reset?

Hello budgall. He has not to my knowledge run either of those yet. He is in no hurry now since the usb wireless adapter I put on it is working. If it were me, it would drive me crazy as to why the built in adapter is seeing all the connections around him but not his.

Spoke with my brother last night. He has not attempted to run any of the diagnostics that were in the link from jholland1964 that I sent him. He said that as long as the usb wireless adapter is working, that is all he needs. I have helped him on many occasions in the past and he has always been willing to try and follow my instructions until things were fixed. I guess he has aged enough now that he does not want the drama of troubleshooting anymore. If it were me, it would drive me batty until I figured it out. But that is just how I am.
As always, you generous folks have been willing to read my posts and give valuable suggestions which I always greatly appreciate! Like the old saying goes though, you can lead a horse to water -----.
Thank you all again very much!

You're welcome Paul. Like you I still would want to know why my own connection is not found and as budgall suggested a network reset might do the trick, would take just a few minutes too, but you tried and that's what helps.
