Very interesting for sure. I use Windows Defender AV & Firewall on both of my computer. I also scan with FREE Malwarebytes. Prior to using Windows Defender on my old computers I only used FREE AV & Firewalls but did use both. At one time Avira and also at one time Avast. I never had an infection of any kind. Years ago, and I do mean years ago, when I got my first computer it came with a free trial of Norton. I used that and when it expired I purchased the paid version. Can't say how many years I used that but certainly not as long as I have used Free programs. I believe I switched to the Free programs on the recommendation of Crockett a member of World Start years ago or maybe it was Crash Override, can't remember but I know it's probably been 20 years at least since I used a paid AV and Firewall. |

I also use Windows Defender AV and Firewall on my Windows computers. On my Linux computer I do not use any AV program. Like Judy I have used multiple free AV programs as well paid AV programs prior to making Windows Defender my AV program of choice. The only infection I have ever had or found on one of my computers was when I purposely copied infected files on to my hard drive to test AV programs.

A very good read.
Microsoft Defender AV & Firewall for me also. Prior to that Free Avast which I had no problems with and was a replacement for Paid Norton.
