I downloaded the update (free version) and when I attempt to install it I get "Error opening file for writing". Any ideas on this problem?

I downloaded the update (free version) and when I attempt to install it I get "Error opening file for writing". Any ideas on this problem? Sounds like a bad download. Delete the install file. What operating system are you using? What else were you doing when you did the download? What browser did you use? Answer the questions first and then go to this link and try the download again. www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standardthis will give you the executable file. Save it on your computer where you can easily find it. Then close out everything else, browsers, mail programs, music, whatever else you may have running. Then go to the downloaded file and double click and install it. Let me know how it goes.

May I suggest also that the existing installed version be uninstalled completely before the new one is installed. This is not usually required but I have had the same thing happen on 2 occassions in the past.

I am running 8.1 and always use Firefox as my browser. I had other windows open when I downloaded the update. I deleted the download, again downloaded with no windows open and attempted to install with the same results. I followed Everton's suggestion and completely uninstalled CCleaner from my system and then downloaded and reinstalled the free version successfully. I had been thinking of doing this last night but thought I should await word from my experts. Thank you for your help.

Very glad that all is well. Yes, sometimes there is some sort of conflict that for some reason causes problems with the new download of the new version. Thanks too for checking back to let us know.
