What email program?
You do know that you are using an extremely dangerous computer I presume. XP is now outdated by 3 years so has no security updates.

This means is is totally insecure and has not received any security updates since then and anyone who receives messages from you could be wide open to malware and virus infections. Which AV do you use? Do you use any malware protection like Malwarebytes for instance?

Big Barney,I have Avira which evidently stopped it's updates just recently for XP. I had been getting updates until then and am looking for another Avira version that might download for XP with updating or if I can't, get another AV that will.
Yes Malwarebytes,SuperAntiSpyware spywareblaster and CCleaner Thanks, H.

Chances are you will have a very difficult time finding any anti-virus program that can be used on XP. There have been 5 operating systems released since XP. XP does not have latest the security features built into the 5 newest operating systems and therefore likely will not be able to perform an update. Avira Free no longer supports XP. You might try Avast Free, www.avast.com/download-thank-you.php?product=FAV-AVAST&locale=en-wwfor now it still supports XP but with all programs you must have XP with SP3 installed. There is no guarantee that this support will continue with any security product. No matter what security programs you find that will still work on XP and there are very few, as BigBarney said, so you are definitely putting your friends and family at risk when you send them an email.

We cannot help you unless you give full and complete information and because we don't know what happens when you try to access your mail or your home page. Just saying you can't get them doesn't tell us enough. There are lots of folks here who may well have the answer but if they don't know everything they need to know then they cannot give you any suggestions. Without the full information there could be suggestions given that would damage your computer. All information is vital. Exactly, step by step, tell us in full what happens when you try to access your mail. How long has this been happening? Have you rebooted your computer recently? Have you run all of your security programs? You said you have Outlook.Live email. Are you using Outlook that comes with Microsoft Office or accessing mail online via the browser? If you are using the email program only then have you tried accessing your mail through your browser?

Judy, I'll try to be as informative as I possibly can. I am sorry I haven't been with the required information, but I am not the brightest bulb in the room when it comes to computers (and other things) and don't always know what you folks need. I work with the thought I'll give the problem in simplest terms and go from there. (not very smart huh!). I also am not to bright on computerease. Well enough of that here goes.
1. I turn on the computer, press the IE icon on my desktop. 2. Normally my homepage with the list of my emails on the webpage comes up. 3. Then I open what ever newsletter of interest. 4. This has been happening for a little over a week. 5. On the reboot question, I guess daily, I turn it on and turn off when finished. 6. Yes I have run CCleaner, Malwarebyte-AntiMalware,SuperAntiSpyware,Spyblaster. 7. I don't Know for sure but I think it's Outlook.Live email with Microsoft, (but what do I know?) 8. As for accessing my mail through my browser,I couldn't tell you cuz I don't know how to specifically answer these two questions with certainty. I am a very simple fellow, sit at the keyboard and with very limited computer knowledge do my best and hope things go smoothly. I hope I answered all your questions OK, I did to the best of my PC limited ability. Thanks Judy for your help. H

These two answers tell me that you are using your browser to access your email and your home page is your email account inbox.
So what comes up instead of that page?

Judy, did the Diagnostic connection problem, results below. There have been a very few others that I have the problem to access with on occasion, but my email site is always the access problem. Try this and let me know what happens:
1. Open Internet Explorer. Click on Internet Options and go to the Connections tab. 2. Click on the button LAN settings and uncheck all the options present in the opened window.
Then close out Internet Explorer completely. Open again and see if things work correctly.
Report back ASAP.

Judy, shut computer down completely, same results, no luck. Sorry,H. Herb, I didn't say anything about shutting down the computer, where did you read that? I gave you these instructions: Did you do those instructions? Notice it says nothing about shutting down the computer.

Yes I did those instructions. When it said " Then close out Internet Explorer completely", completely to me means completely so I shut it down completely! Do you want me to do it over with only "Then close out Internet Explorer"?

Do you want me to do it over with only "Then close out Internet Explorer"? Herb, Shut down Internet Explorer completely means Internet Explorer ONLY. If a person is supposed to shut down the computer then the instructions will include the word....Computer. That word was not in my instructions. Don't bother to do those again. A big part of the problem is you are using a browser that is 11 years old that is expired and an operating system that is 16 years old, also expired and neither one is supported anymore. Things are breaking and it is doubtful they can be fixed. Please go to this web site and follow the instructions given there. There are pictures there to show you what to do. www.howtogeek.com/howto/16365/reset-all-internet-explorer-8-settings-to-fix-stability-problems/Here are the instructions in print: In Internet Explorer 8, click the Tools toolbar button and choose the menu command Internet Options. Click the Advanced tab. Click the Reset button. The Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box appears. Click the Reset button in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box. Click the Close button. Click the OK button and then: Close all open Internet Explorer windows to restart Internet Explorer.
*Please note, it does Not say restart computer, it says Internet Explorer*

I didn't see the word "ONLY" there either, so I went with the word I saw, "completely" which was there. Will that cause some kind of major problem?
You didn't say if I should put the check back onto the option that was before you said to click onto
"LAN settings and uncheck all the options present in the opened window", in as much as nothing changed.

You didn't say if I should put the check back onto the option that was before you said to click onto "LAN settings and uncheck all the options present in the opened window", in as much as nothing changed. The word "ONLY" was not there and neither was the word "Computer". What was there was, "Internet Explorer". If something else should have been closed or done then I would have said so. No you were not supposed to put the check mark back in. No it won't hurt your computer because you did not follow the instructions exactly as written. Those instructions only, not following "some" instructions as written can certainly damage your computer. Please read and follow exactly the last instructions I gave you. The web site link will also show you in pictures. Follow them. Please, follow those and then come back and report fully if those instructions worked. ASAP.

"Then close out Internet Explorer completely. Open again and see if things work correctly.", Your words on your post, not just "What was there was, Internet Explorer" as you just said, you must have accidently forgotten to include the word "completely" in your last comment. Sorry, Judy no ASAP, must get ready and leave for a Doctor appointment. Later.

Sorry, Judy no ASAP, must get ready and leave for a Doctor appointment. You obviously do not care for my assistance or the way written instructions are given, so I will now bow out. I am sure somebody else to take over and assist you. Please do the last instructions on how to reset Internet Explorer that I gave you 2 hours ago, those would have taken you less than one minute to follow and very possibly would have fixed your problem. Put the results of those instructions in your next post. I am sure somebody else will step in and offer you help.

Not your assistance, your attitude in giving the assistance, it could improve. Sorry to have to say that. H.

Not your assistance, your attitude in giving the assistance, it could improve. Sorry to have to say that. H. Looks good to me. You seem like you just didn't take the time to read the instructions given. I agree 100% about the outdated version of Windows and IE. I know some people might not be able to afford a new computer with a new version of Windows, but that is OK.
