There's a bit about it here is you are interested www.fleursplace.com/index.htmWalked along Koekohe Beach afterwards, home of the Moeraki Boulders.Each boulder weighs several tonnes and is up to two metres high.Scientific explanation is that the boulders are calcite concretions formed about 65 million years ago. According to Maori legend, the boulders are gourds washed ashore from the great voyaging canoe Araiteuru when it was wrecked on landfall in New Zealand hundreds of years ago. I like the legend best
