I made the mistake of trying to install a program, WPS Office, and apparently it installed with an error. I can't uninstall it and I can't install it because the attached sign comes up and freezes everything on my computer. I have tried "Unlocker" but that did not work I have tried task manager but I don't see it there, neither control panel uninstall nor CCleaner get rid of it. Is there any solution other than restoring my computer to a previous version? Attachments:

Are you attempting to use the very same install file or did you download a brand new one as you should have done? Also where did you get the file? There are many, many download locations for this file and many of them are not to be trusted. The ONLY place to get it is from this link; www.wps.com/office-freeDelete the install file you have and download a brand new one from the home site. See if that either works or allows you to uninstall. Did you first look in Programs and Features when you attempted to uninstall? That is where you should begin, if it is not listed then follow the instructions above. Unlocker? Not sure why you would have used that, you had no message about a locked file. Is this the Paid version of Unlocker? The original program is very old, 2013 and its home page is now blocked as unsafe. Majorgeeks has a download for it but does not have a link available for the developer anymore. I would advise that you Uninstall it and do not use it again. IObit also now offers a program called Unlocker and any software from that company is definitely NOT to be trusted.

I did download a new version from the developer's site but that also did not work. However, I did solve the problem - I installed "Revo Uninstaller Pro" Trial version and that got rid of WPS Office!

Glad you got rid of it, however, my real concern is the use of Unlocker and you never answered my questions about it. That program was one that was advised against downloading or using at all several years ago back at World Start. Many people ended up with malware just with the download. If you aren't concerned then I won't be either. If you want a good Office type program there are several excellent ones and one of them is Libre Office. It is excellent, I have used it myself and documents created with it CAN easily be read by persons using Microsoft Office and vice/versa. It IS Free and works with All versions of Windows, including Windows 10 www.libreoffice.org/

I do have a program called "unchecky" which does not allow any extra software to be downloaded and as I recall there was something with Unlocker that was unchecked by it. I use Libre Office as my default office program but I like to have an extra program just in case, that is why I had WPS Office. I have now installed Apache Open Office as my backup office software. Thanks for your help.

I hope it can see all things like registry changes, default search engine changes, home page changes and things the user isn't shown, PUP's and that type of thing that questionable programs very often contain and are not shown to the user to choose install or not. Wish you luck.

MSVCR100.DLL is a Microsoft Visual C++ file and is required by applications which were made with Visual C++
I have the version of WPS that you downloaded, sucessfully installed on my Windows 10 computer. It works fine and is a great program. Like you I have Libre Office as well.
It is possible you may receive those bad image messages when running other exe files if the .dll is corrupted.
I had a look in my WPS Office Folder and the .dll is present in my installation.
You say you were trying to uninstall the program which suggests that the application was installed (with errors) in which case there should have been an Uninstall Application included. They also include with the latest version a General Repair/Configuration Tool which may have helped your registry error.

The uninstall Application did not work, everything froze whenever I tried to uninstall WPS and when I tried to install a fresh copy, when it went to uninstall the installed version, it again froze everything. I could not find a General Repair/Configuration tool in my installation, apparently, it never was installed.

Well it is not relevant any more for you as you have managed to delete WPS and install an alternative.
Mine installed with icons for the Writer, the Presentation app, Spreadsheet, update app, uninstall app and the new Tools one.
Something I do not understand is that using Revo Pro to uninstall is that it always runs the built in uninstaller for any program first, before scanning for leftovers. The WPS uninstaller must have worked through Revo or you would have had a notification from it so why it stalled running it outside of Revo is strange.

I apologise - the General Repair/Configuration Tool I thought was something new in the latest version of WPS but I have now looked at my laptop that has an old version dated 2012 (from when it was called Kingsoft Office) and it too has the same feature. I just never noticed it before.
