I switched to using Chrome from I but when I run the free CCleaner it does not delete the Chrome cookies.(it says "cookies-skipped") I searched on Ccleaner but cannot find where to include removal of the cookies. Can you help with this? Thank you. You don't want to remove 1st party cookies, those are Good cookies that help make your surfing easier those are also the cookies that help you stay signed in on sites like this one. Delete them all then you will always have to sign in. You shouldn't use CCleaner to remove cookies at all, cookie control is set through the browsers themselves. It is only 3rd party tracking cookies you do not want and those need to be blocked through the browser On your computer, open Chrome. At the top right, click More More and then Settings. At the bottom, click Advanced. Under "Privacy and security," click Content settings. Click Cookies. Turn Allow sites to save and read cookie data on or off. Block cookies from other sites You can allow cookies from the site you visit, while blocking cookies from other sites that own ads or images on the webpage. To block these third-party cookies, turn on Block third-party cookies. All cookies and site data from other sites will be blocked, even if the site is allowed on your exceptions list. Look at the attachments for the correct settings to use in CCleaner Attachments:

Does not CCleaner always pop up a message if a browser is open during cleaning, offering to close it ? It certainly does if Edge is open.

Yes it does, BUT, the user has to tell it to close the browser and if the user doesn't close it himself or let CCleaner close it then that browser will not be closed and therefore not cleaned either. In chrome there is a setting that allows background applications to run even after Chrome is closed..to enable proper CCleaner cleaning that has to be disabled in advanced settings. "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed" needs to be unchecked. (In Menu/Settings/ Show advanced settings)

Thank you for the help--I will check it out. When I have run CCleaner, I don't turn off Chrome--yet it seems to clean everything. This is how I saw that cookies were 'skipped'.

I don't think you understand, since you do not turn off Chrome then everything else will be cleaned, but Chrome will Not. If you want Chrome cleaned then you DO have to turn it off. But you don't want to clean off cookies anyway, those are needed in order for the browsers, any and all browsers, to be able to navigate the internet quickly and without any problems.

Personally I have each browser clean all cookies and history on exit. I don't like the idea of the browser storing my passwords either so I do not allow that - it takes a second to log in each time. Just my own opinion and not for everyone of course. This page from piriform explains how to select which cookies CCleaner deletes www.piriform.com/docs/ccleaner/ccleaner-settings/choosing-which-cookies-to-keep
