For several years I have used Ocster Backup Pro. They sold out to Ashampoo about a year ago and I accepted the transfer of my Pro subscription to the Ashampoo version which appears to be identical to the old Ocster. I have both programs on my machine but continued to use the Ocster version. Now that my pc is upgraded Version 1709 neither program will complete a full disk backup. (see attachment) I have plenty of space on both the source and the system disk It appears from here support.microsoft.com/en-nz/help/4034825/features-that-are-removed-or-deprecated-in-windows-10-fall-creators-upthat MS has removed the System Image Backup (SIB) and they "recommend that users use full-disk backup solutions from other vendors." I can only assume that the Ocster/Ashampoo programs rely on SIB to function - a great disappointment as I have had no problems with these backups.. I now need to install an alternative so am open to suggestions. The reason I liked Ocster was for is ease of use - so I need something that is simple to use. Attachments:

I too was an Ocster Backup Pro user and when Ashampoo purchased them I transferred to using Ashampoo for backups. I have not had any problems with the program what so ever. I run it on both WIndows 7 computers and a computer that has Windows 10 Fall Creators Update installed. I would suggest you contact support regarding the message you got. They were very helpful to me when I contacted them regarding a switch over issue I had right after they bought Ocster.

Thank you uffbros and Phil for your suggestions Budgall, I honestly don't know what is going on - because if your Ashampoo Pro is working with the Fall Creators Update it must be something on my machine that is wrong. I saw that Acronis specifically said it's latest version is compatible with 1709 so I installed a trial version - the attachment is the result from that update attempt. Maybe I should do a check Disk ? I have uninstalled Acronis - the whole 734MB of it ! I would prefer to continue using Ashampoo Pro (I like the ability to pause the BU operation) but in the meantime I have installed Aomei Backupper Standard which performed a backup in quick time. I had it check integrity after completion and have mounted the bu disks and everything looks in order. I will attempt another Ashampoo BU overnight on a different disk. I am currently backing up my 1709 laptop with Ashampoo 2016 (V10 free) - so far it appears to be alright although very slow. If I can get it to work I will purchase Version 11 for my pc and transfer 10 to my laptop. Clicking on Upgrade within the program gives me a "special offer" of NZ$16.24 but if I go direct to the online shop it is NZ$14.99. That seems a bit weird ! Attachments:

Yes do the check disk and do the repairs. If the 1709 laptop backup is the first time backup it will be slow

I ran check disk and there were no errors.
I used a different back up disk (WD Elements plug in) and attempted another Ashampoo backup on the PC overnight which successfully completed. I disabled Malwarebytes for the backup - it is running a trial pro version. Not sure if that was an issue. Tonight I will try again with my Toshiba usb back up drive and see what happens.
I will likely never know what caused the failures of both Ashampoo and Acronis, and yet Aomei worked. I was impressed with Aomei.
Th laptop Back up completed as well.
Because I had updated to 1709 I presumed a reason for the failures was that the backup program was not compatible. What the real reason was will remain a mystery !

I think the problem is Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. I have it installed on a desktop and a laptop and both computers now operate slower than they did prior to the update. I am seeing very high CPU usage on both computers even when the computer is just sitting doing nothing. The positive side is that both the desktop and laptop are not computers I use very often. All the computers I use for productive use run either Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate and have seen no advantage to moving to one of the newer versions of Windows.
Now back on topic: You might want to report your backup issues to both Ashampoo and Acronis to see what solution they may offer. I think Ashampoo support is very good however I can't say the same about Acronis support based on my past experience with them.

One program I run a lot is SolSuite, a solitaire game from TreeCardGames. The Fall Creators Update has caused this program to run so slow that the game is no longer playable. I uninstalled it and during the uninstall process TreeCardGames asked why I was uninstalling the program. I told them about the problems and then reinstalled the product. The new install did not change the problem. They emailed a request for more details about the slowness and I responded as requested. This AM they sent me the following email: " We have received emails from a few TreeCardGames customers that are having the same issues with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. I have made some research and people are having issues like this with all kind of programs/apps: answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-update/windows-10-creators-update-slows-down-pc/9d5d13f1-48b1-4803-9d29-7cf92883f1f4?auth=1 One of my customers (and this would be my suggestion) said that as he would not wait for Windows to release an update, he rolled back to the previous Windows 10 Creators version (1706), which had no issues. Thank you. Joy TreeCardGames.com - Support" Like I said above, I believe Windows 10 Fall Creators Update is the problem Edit: After reading the comments in the above link, it appears that most of the comments are about the Creators Update and not the Fall Creators Update however the suggestions made may also work with the Fall Update. The only way to know will be to try them

The only way to know will be to try them I will not bother contacting Acronis as I have already uninstalled the program. I did have an earlier version on my old XP machine which seemed to work well but never had occasion to do a restore. I will contact Ashampoo if I have any further problems but the last backup completed with no problems. Other than those glitches I have no other obvious problems with Windows 10 or specifically the Fall Creators Update and have no consistent high CPU usage readings. Currently it is at 2%. I have noticed a spike sometimes just after boot up but presume that is something happening in the background and it quickly comes down. My PC was upgraded from Windows 8.1 and my 6 year old laptop from 7. However, I do not use any games on either. I am glad you came back and edited your last post as I was not understanding the link discussion as it was started in April before the Fall Creators Update. As an experiment I downloaded and installed the Tree Cards SolSuite 2017 version 1710. I don't know how to play and the trial version is limited to 3 shuffles per game but as far as I can see it it working ok and tootling along at a great pace, too fast for me to keep up with ! CPU usage went up to 6% during play. . I will not be the Double Klondike champion any time soon ! Did you replace yours with the latest version ? Tree Cards also offer 8 free solitaire games through the MS Store www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/solitaire-collection-free/9wzdncrdn990

TreeCards SolSuite is the only game I have on my computer. My version is a couple of years old (Version 16.5) so that might be part of the problem. Prior to the Fall Creators Update I had no issues with it. I am in touch with their tech support so maybe they will come up with a solution. The update to the current version is only $6.00 which I will do, first I want to see if they find whats causing the slowness on my computer.
When I posted that link I had not read through the comments or picked up on the dates being prior to the release of the Fall Creator Update. Some of that info may still apply but I though the edit was needed.

Budgall - have you tried activating the Game Bar in windows 10 ? support.xbox.com/en-NZ/games/game-setup/use-game-mode-gaming-on-pcAlso the Fall Creators update may have reverted your graphics to the windows 10 default 'integrated'. If you have Nvidia Your games may run better if you change to High Performance Nvidia processor. Mine is set to auto. The setting is in the Nvidia Control Panel/3D settings/Preferred Graphics processor. You can also specify for individual programs. I used to have a Nvidia control panel icon in my notification area - it has disappeared and I eventually located it in Control Panel which is also now more difficult to locate as it has been removed from the right click start menu list. I keep a CP shortcut on the desktop but it can easily be reached via search.

Thank you for the Game Bar suggestion I didn't know about it. I tried turning it on and it changed nothing. I had already checked for updated Graphic Card drivers and am running the most current driver for the video card.
The good news is that yesterday afternoon I decided to use what I think is the best Windows Repair Tool currently on the market. The tool is called Windows Repair Pro from tweaking.com. It comes in 2 flavors Free or Pro (Pro is only $25). The Pro version adds a few extras but is not required to repair your Windows problems. I upgraded to the Pro version because the free version is so good I wanted to support the developer.
Using the Windows Repair Tool is not a quick fix program, from start to finish on my computer took just under 4 hours to complete. No special knowledge is required just the ability to follow and complete the detailed instructions given in the program.
Upon completion of the repair the CPU cycles returned to what I would call normal and the game SolSuite again ran the same as it did prior to the installation of the Fall Creators Update. I am not quite sure what was causing the problems with the computer, but Windows Repair Pro fixed them to my satisfaction.

I downloaded W10 when it became available and until this past weekend I was working with 1151 version. Just couldn't get version 1606 to install. I've now been able to update to W1709 and need info about backing it up. Do I do a total backup of PC? If so, do I need to keep the older backup that I made with orginal W10? Appreciate any/all help.. pat
P.S. Everton, Thank you for the info on the games. I've missed my card games. However, I did have to copy and paste the address. The redirect wouldn't work for me. thanks again.

I use Ashampoo Backup Pro 11 on multiple computers on a daily basis. In my setup the first backup is a full backup and then incremental daily backups. The program allows the user multiple backup options. I have been using Ashampoo since they purchased the program from Ocster. I recommend it highly. I just checked their website and it is on sale for $15.99

Thank you, Budgall Is there a difference from using the built-in comp program for backing-up and a downloaded one? Pat, this information from here www.thewindowsclub.com/windows-10-fall-creators-update-removes-features“System Image Backups The built-in utility to create system backups has been deprecated from the Fall Creators Update, and Microsoft recommends to use third party software to perform full system backups.” so so you do need to use a third party app. I also use Ashampoo but there are other good ones. I like Aomei and Macrium is also highly recommended. Both of them are free and easy to use. I have a Pro version of Ashampoo and there is also a cheaper version which I use on my laptop and it is fine. It does not have the ability to create multiple plans but apart from that it does what you need.. very easy to set up. Ahampoo backup 2016 www.ashampoo.com/en/usd/pin/0159/security-software/backup-2016Ashampoo Backup Pro 11 www.ashampoo.com/en/usd/pin/0559/security-software/backup-pro-11

Some further information on Windows Repair Tool as mentioned above by budgall www.techadvisor.co.uk/download/system-desktop-tools/windows-repair-409-3249808/Up to date and worth reading the whole article. Particular note from there “VERDICT Windows Repair provides easy access to 30 powerful Windows-fixing options. Just be careful - using a fix which isn't appropriate for your system can cause more problems than it solves. Make sure you have a full system backup before you begin.” edit: also if you are running Windows 10 with the Fall Creators Update Installed do make sure you have the latest version of the tool which has been updated to accommodate changes required
