Apparently the new update Fall Creators has messed up the settings on my PC.. I figured how to open Win 10 from being shutdown without a password, but after it goes to sleep when I try to wake it I have to use a password. I've searched for an answer but everything I have found is pre update. Anyone got a clue ?
Then when I figure that out another problem (but not serious-)--I can't print two-sided automatically --I've always had it automatically do duplex printing until now. I might have to reinstall the software for the printer which can be a hassle. But first the sleep problem

I'm not a big user of Win 10, but I would check the settings in the Power > Sleep area
Re: Printer - Check the printer properties for duplex printing. It would also help if you gave us the make & Model of the printer

That worked as far when first turning on the PC---but it doesn't help with waking up the PC from a sleep. Budgall----that doesn't work because when you get as far as "ACCOUNTS" then you get a different screen. All the articles I have searched and found only get that far also--

Finn, click on the Notification icon at the far right of notification bar (to the right if the clock) Click on 'All Settings' icon and the 'Windows Settings' window will open. From there select 'Accounts' and then click on 'Sign In Options' The window that opens is where you select 'Never' for 'should windows require your to sign in again' Follow the yellow highlights on my attachments

All the things I have searched for lead me to that screen (your 3rd attachment). where yours say NEVER---mind says WHEN PC WAKES UP FROM SLEEP --But it is grayed out so I can't change it. I have to admit this is the first time I realized it grayed out. BOO-HISS on my part.

I am not sure what you mean is greyed out - is it the actual drop-down menu .? When pc wakes up from sleep is the other option. I do not know why you can not change that by hitting the little arrow to drop it down. Are you logged in as administrator ? I Do not know if that makes a difference..perhaps some other setting is overriding this one.
Hopefully someone else may be able to help further.

Click the arrow and you should see: NEVER WHEN PC WAKES UP FROM SLEEP (See attachment #2, left click attachment to enlarge ). Click on "NEVER", (The gray means nothing!!!!!) now you should see "NEVER" with an arrow to the right. This is the way you want it. (See attachment #1, left click attachment to enlarge).

wrongnumber - the screenshot you posted does not have the options greyed out. I have logged into a standard user account and the options ARE greyed out so I ask again is Finn logged in as a standard user ? My screenshot shows that 'Never' is already selected but his will show the other option greyed out and the red text will say authentication IS required. If not logged in as Administrator that is the reason for the greying out, and he needs to be logged in as an Administrator for the sign in options to be available to change. Finn- can you post a screenshot of what you are seeing, to clarify things.? also, how many user accounts do you have ? I just wondered if you have accidentally logged into a different one to the one you used before the Fall Creators Update because that should not have changed any of your system or printer settings. OK, I see now, I'm signed in as "administrator", so mine isn't grayed out nor red writing.

Maybe it's because I have a local account and discontinued the password on sign in? Attachments:

Well last night I got the sign-in problem solved---Went into a account setting that wasn't in any of the advice places and the searches I did. Apparently you people had it before that Fall Creators update, because we could not get to that window where you just click "never" to make it work. ( don't ask how we did it because it was a matter of going here, going there. And I didn't have time to write it down. Now to tackle the AUTOMATIC duplex printing problem. I can do the manual duplex printing so I know the printer software is set up right.

The screen shots I posted were most definitely after the Fall update which I installed on 20/10/17. Screen shots were on 30/10/17. Glad you found it and got it done anyway. I don't think anyone will be able to help with the automatic Duplex printing question until you give the name and model of your printer as all will have different settings/ With my Canon Printer I right click on the printer icon in Devices and Printers in Control Panel. Then select Printing Preferences, then the Page Setup Tab where I can select Duplex and tick automatic. Your printer will have a similar setting. Use Control Panel (type it in search) to locate your printer icon in Devices & Printers. It can not be reached via 'All Settings'. If you can not locate the setting post your printer model - someone else may have it.

Paul ... here’s link to the printer you have listed in your signature.... h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05048181Page 35 has the duplex printing steps and the NOTE in the middle of the page has link to use of the HP printer management tools to assist in settings.

I knew about that manual and it does set up (Manual duplex) printing, but it doesn't go far enough to get it to print automatically. Last week I went as far as to uninstall the printer and the software. And when I used the Installation CD that came with the printer--It told me to click on and use the on-line set up. Which didn't help. Today I did the uninstall again but I used the CD to reinstall the printer and now it is OK and doing the automatic two-sided printing. So I'm good.

Perfect... had to do the same to my WiFi HP color Laser printer after the Windows update as a hiccup occurred with one of my laptops which would recognize the wireless printer, just wouldn’t print even though the progress window claimed the Hallmark card was printing.... updates don’t always go 100% OK on all devices.... surprised doesn’t happen more often 😜

Yeh, you think the update worked ok until a few days later you try something that you don't use every day. And HP is notorious for not providing updated info on problems. You have a question about Windows 10 and they'll post info about Win 7 or 8.

Both your PC and Printer are HP products - do you use the HP Support Assistant app ? It will offer you available updates (you can set it to download and install automatically OR advise if an update is available and let you choose) It lists your PC and printer specifications and warranty status. It also has a Guided Troubleshooting section and the HP Print & Scan doctor. If you don't have it and want to try it it can be downloaded here www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html

I've used the HP Support Asst. since I got this PC in April--I've use the HP Print & Scan doctor since I don't know how many printers ago. Neither one of these helped with these issues. I spent two weeks before I posted so it not like I didn't try first.

So you spent two weeks trying to fix the issue with your printer but since you did not include the fact that you HAD already used HP Support Assist and HP Print & Scan Doctor there is no way that either Everton or BigBarney could possibly have known that you had used them. If they had known this in advance then they wouldn't have given those suggestions. Helpers can only give correct assistance if they are informed of All of the facts.

I spent two weeks before I posted so it not like I didn't try first. jholland is correct - there is no way we could have known you had the HP Support Assistant. I would like to clarify that I did not mention the HP Support Assistant and the Print & Scan Doctor as a solution to either of your questions - you had already solved both of them yourself. It was in response to your dissatisfaction with HP update and help (which has not been my experience) and I only wondered if you had the app. Using the HP app would have been of no use whatsoever in remedying your problems as neither of them were major issues - they were simpy settings that had been changed, that you wanted put back the way they used to be. The help that was offered to you you said was no use because it was based on systems without the Fall Creators update installed. That was incorrect. Had I not had that update installed I would never have attempted to help solve problems you thought were caused by it. If you had been able to give the screenshot I suggested in post #9 a solution may possibly have been reached faster. Neither did you advise if it was a possibility you had logged into a different account (an easy mistake to make if you have more than one account, many of us have done it) Happily you have now solved both of your problems. It really is a shame you can not remember how you got to the setting that was needed for the password bypass as it may have helped someone else who was not finding it the way that was suggested.

O.K. so beat me up. Anyone else want to jump on ? Its a shame you took it that way - that was not my intention. I am sorry - sometimes trying to help backfires, due to misunderstandings in the 'conversations' .
