I haven't downloaded the Creators Update yet, and I was wondering if Windows Defender Firewall will conflict with my Norton Security Firewall? I know that you should only have one anti-virus software, but I'm not sure about firewalls.
Thanks in advance,
Mary

Thanks in advance, Mary The Creators Update should have download automatically, are you stopping the download? The Windows Defender Firewall is exactly the same Windows Firewall that is already on your computer, just a new name. If you have Norton Firewall running on your computer then you must NOT use with Windows Defender Firewall. The rule is the same as it has always been ONE antivirus program and ONE firewall.

Judy- No, I haven't done anything to stop the update, I just assumed the update would install automatically. It hasn't done so yet.I hadn't allowed Windows Defender to run prior to this because I prefer the Norton anti-virus/firewall. Will the Creator update automatically include Windows defender firewall, and if so, can I disable Windows Defender's firewall?

Mary, the firewall is exactly the same as it is now it isn't new or changed, just the name. If it is off now then Norton will keep it off. You are right, the update should install itself automatically. It will take 90 minutes to about two hours to complete, at least it did for me.

Judy, Thanks for the info. I am always apprehensive about updates, so I hope it goes well for me. If not, you know I'll be back asking for your help, so I'll thank you in advance.

Mary It went just fine for me. I had no problems at all. I would suggest that you turn off Norton when the update begins and leave it off until it is complete. There have been instances when Norton has caused some problems or slowed things down. Otherwise, just let it happen.

I too use Norton Security and have done for years. Norton will automatically shut down Windows Defender, so you don't need to be concerned about that. I have never had to shut down Norton while doing Windows 10 updates on any of the computers I deal with.

Bigbarney. Have you downloaded the Creators Update yet?
When I Googled disabling Windows Defender after Creators update, I've seen some problems people have had trying to disable Windows Defender permanently.
Judy-
If I disable Norton while running the Creators Update, will enabling Norton after the update disable Windows Defender as bigbarney suggests, or am I misunderstanding this.
Thanks, Mary

Thanks, Mary I have downloaded the Creators Update on two computers with no problems. I did not disable Norton on either occasion. Norton will automatically disable Windows Defender. My problems with downloading Creators Update on my own desktop are now history as I have now got a new desktop. I am hoping to recover some if not all of my files from the old computer once my tech guy has finished installing his new kitchen!

Thanks, Mary Mary, please take this in the way I mean it, the nicest way possible, I believe you are looking for trouble where there is no trouble. It is well known that when folks use Norton Firewall that it WILL turn off the Windows Firewall automatically. Whether that firewall is called Windows Firewall or Windows Defender Firewall Norton will handle it. Barney gave you the correct answer about this in his post right here #7 and he expanded on that in his reply right above this one. He has a brand new computer so his computer does have the Fall Creators Update. Barney also told you that he has never had to turn off Nortons when doing updates.... Follow HIS advice NOT mine. I gave that only as a possible thing to do if you have trouble when the update comes in. I should have kept my mouth shut. Do what Barney says, HE uses Norton, He has the Fall Creators Update. Don't borrow trouble where there is No trouble. You seem to be presuming you are going to have many problems with this new update. Why? Most of us here who have received the Fall Creators Update had no trouble whatsoever. The two people who did have trouble actually had other computer trouble that was compounded when the update tried to come it, the update did NOT cause their problems. One was Barney as he stated above, he had a bad hard drive on his old computer so he bought a new computer. Another member had used lousy internet service for many years so his operating system in general was in disarray. He took it to a tech who cleared all that up and then Fall Creators Update installed without problems. Stop worrying.

Judy-
Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it. It reminds one of my mother's warning "Don't borrow trouble!"
Thanks, Mary
