As I do every week for our club quiz, I created the quiz using Open Office Writer and then output it as a pdf for emailing.
I opened my email client, BTYahoo via Firefox and created the email as normal and attached the pdf documents. As soon as I attached the pdfs, my computer shut down and restarted.
Now I can't get Firefox to open at all, either from 'Start' or via the shortcut on my desktop. Edge and Chrome are working normally but not Firefox.
Do I need to reinstall Firefox? If so, what could have happened to cause this crash?

Operating System? Computer information? Antivirus program, Firewall, anything else running at the same time? Sorry to say the Event Viewer tells me nothing, somebody else may be able to get something from it but sorry to say I do not other than the fact the problem is with the operating system not Firefox. Something caused the system itself to shut down and Firefox ended up being the victim likely not the cause. I know the computer itself rebooted but have you then manually rebooted the computer? That is always #1 when having a problem like this. If that doesn't help then try creating a new Profile for Firefox and see if you then can use Firefox. Follow the directions given here: support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles

Sorry for the confusion Judy. I should have highlighted the fact that it was my home computer having the problem.
Firefox was the only app affected by whatever happened.

Sorry for the confusion Judy. I should have highlighted the fact that it was my home computer having the problem. Firefox was the only app affected by whatever happened. No problem. Firefox likely was the only thing affected because that is the program you were using at the time. Do be aware though, something else may have been affected but you just don't know it yet. Hopefully this was a one time happening. You really should go through the Entire Event viewer. There are multiple listings besides just that general one that you posted. All that really tells you that there was a Critical System error and the computer was shut down to prevent further damage. All of the other sections of the Event Viewer can possibly give you exactly what happened and they all should be looked at: Custom Views: Administrative Events (this very often gives very specific information as to what may have caused a problem. Windows Logs which has important sub sets to go through; Application, Security, Setup, System Applications and Services: you will find a large number of listings there. If you go through all of those I guarantee you will see other listings labeled with Errors or occasionally Critical Errors. This may narrow this system crash down for you.

Hi Everton,
I agree now that this is not a Firefox problem.

Possibly a video driver issue. There is instruction here that may help. windowsreport.com/fix-live-kernel-event-141-error/(The fixit tool recommended is the Reimage Repair Tool that will scan your computer and then need to be paid for to repair the problems it finds so I would definitely ignore that recommendation.)

I've updated the graphic drivers, so wait and see?
All the links posted by Judy and Everton seem to be aimed at Windows 7?

Not sure why you would think this Barney, errors shown the links I gave say OS Version: 10.0.10586.2.0.0.768.101 (though numbers listed after 10.0 vary advice is for Windows 10 for sure. Everton's link title is Windows 10 ‘Live kernel event 141’ error
If you note the Microsoft links definitely say this, "Applies to Multiple Products" Please see attached Attachments:

Is it possible that MS has updated the AMD driver via WU ? Sometimes they are incompatible. Rolling back to the previous driver through Device Manager if there is one to roll back to may help. Have a look in C:\Program Files\AMD\CNext\CNext and make sure Radeon Settings.exe is running as admin (Compatibility tab). Possibly your AV is being over protective and is affecting the Radeon Settings- a long shot but a possibility. Sorry I do not know enough to suggest anything else. This being your new computer I myself would be taking it back to the place of purchase for them to fix

I agree with Everton, new computer, take it back to the seller and tell them you want it fixed.

This problem only appeared after a WU update. I will wait and see before doing anything rash.

Don't forget, you had this problem Before you updated the driver. Personally I doubt that is the cause of the problem. If the WU is the cause then that should be removed to see if that is the case. As far as doing something rash, as Eve said,
That would be the most rash thing I would even consider. Remember, you could do something that would violate your warranty and you don't want to do that. This problem could actually be caused by faulty hardware and if that is the case then you need that warranty.

Just an update guys. The problem has not happened again since I rolled back the graphics driver.
Fingers crossed!
