Can you right click on the icon your favorites bar and then select copy?
From there go to your desktop and select paste.

What browser are you using? That option Is available using Firefox and IE. I just tried it and it worked. With Edge you can go to Bing and then Pin a shortcut to Bing to your task bar.

If you can't get it to stop trying then turn off your computer. I would forget trying and instead make Bing your Start page. For over a day I kept getting a pop up saying we are trying again later. I restarted more then once - I turned the computer off more then once. It finally went away once I physically unplugged the computer . I had reset the computer to start over because of the weird problems since that Fall creators update. Things were going great - It was a great time to clear out the favorites . I use Mozilla Thunderbird for an email program so I had to enter each address, but that was a good time to eliminate old addresses. Then the computer started shutting off for a minute at a time. I found out it was the back-up battery. That was good 10 year run on that component So a 100 mile drive to get a new one. So except for 2 teeth that broke off at the gum line. (Happy Holidays for the dentist),, I 'm happy as can be for my age. ONE DAY AT A TIME.
I'll just use BING from the favorites bar because I only use it for searches and wonder how I had it before

I'll just use BING from the favorites bar because I only use it for searches and wonder how I had it before Here is how you got it before and it STILL works. First of all you have to use Internet Explorer, this does not work with other browsers any more. Go to www.bing.com/Place your cursor on the Bing Icon in the address line and drag that to the desktop. I just did it using IE and it does work. It does not work with my other browsers because they do not show web site icons in the address bar. See attachments. The second one shows the short cut on my desktop. Remember, this shortcut means that Bing will open in IE from that shortcut. If you don't use IE then it won't work. Attachments:

I have literally hundreds of them scattered through my system on the desktop and elsewhere and they all (including the one I just made for Bing) open in Firefox, my default browser. And just to prove the point I made Opera my default browser and Bing and every other shortcut now opens in Opera.

You are absolutely right Paul. Just tried it again and I could get the shortcut on my desktop from all browsers and yes, the shortcut opened in my defautl browser, Firefox, even though I made the shortcut using Opera. Sorry for the incorrect information. The freezing weather is working on my brain I guess.

Why ? I thought in post #7 I said what I was going to do, and I was happy. Please ignore any other attempts to offer help. We know it is possible to have a shortcut on the desktop and we only were trying to go the extra mile to help you do what we know is possible. Now I know that is not what you want people to do I will certainly stick with that and avoid doing this with you in the future.

Why ? I thought in post #7 I said what I was going to do, and I was happy. Once you start a thread in a forum it becomes public property, and anyone is free to post any information that may help anyone else, not just the original poster. In your original post you asked a question, and that question has now been answered. How you choose to use that information is up to you, but the answer to your original question may help someone else. That's why.
