Hallo! Hope this New Year finds everyone doing well. I just received notice that I have new Windows updates to install and I'm curious Why? they list these Updates the way they do? (see attachments) In one place an update may be labeled Important and in another place its Optional unless you tick to install it. For me anyways that seems a little confusing and even when I read *more information* about a given update I'm still not sure what to do with it?! I don't like to make assumptions even if they are reversible in most cases. Thank You for your precious time and considerations for what might seem a simple issue. Best, Raphael

The updates are labeled differently because some are actually Windows operating system updates, those are labeled Important and the ones labeled Optional are actually Microsoft updates, which generally have to do with other Microsoft programs, Office are the most common. For me, if I have the program then I take the updates. For instance I always take updates for my Office program because some of those can have security exploits that are patched with these updates. I notice that you do not have a checkmark to apply the Net. Framework update. One thing to consider; though these usually ARE optional it should be noted they might be prerequisites for future software installations. But the choice of course is yours.
Sometimes they also offer hardware driver updates for keyboards or mice which also are labeled Optional. It is those I never take, I look for updates to my hardware from the manufacturer of the hardware, not the general drivers from Microsoft.

Thank You! Sound advice... "Sometimes they also offer hardware driver updates for keyboards or mice which also are labeled Optional. It is those I never take, I look for updates to my hardware from the manufacturer of the hardware, not the general drivers from Microsoft."I just had one of these offered through Microsoft for AMD which as you said is ah No! No! I Hide the update. But I did put a check mark next to the one that was not checked and downloaded it as you suggested. Let's hope and pray there's not a lot of "Tuesday" patch days or any other day for that matter..I'm likely dreaming out loud yet again. Sincerely, Raphael

Sincerely, Raphael If you were just offered these updates they ARE the Patch Tuesday updates. Please note your print screen say "Published" Yesterday. Microsoft’s Jan. 2018 Patch Tuesday LowdownOdd though that you say you were offered one for AMD. That does not show AND Microsoft Pulled the AMD updates. According to the above link:

I should of mentioned this before. The update would not work..I got some kind of an error message..Then I read where someone else had tried four times and it did the same thing. Here is what the Update looked like for AMD.
