I posted in another thread about my computer occasionally crashing and resetting for no apparent reason. I thought that rolling back my Radeon Drivers would sort this out and it seemed to do so. After it happened again yesterday, I logged onto HP Support Assistant and a very efficient agent called Simon took over remote control of my computer and uninstalled and then reinstalled the Radeon Drivers. He is confident that there was a problem with the drivers and assures me that the problem should not occur again. There are Windows Updates waiting to be installed too but I have no idea what they are. Anybody know what they are?

I don't know what the pending updates are for but for now I would not install them. Give yourself some time to see if the reinstall of your Radeon Drivers resolves your current issue. No need to compound the issue. Is the pending update an optional update or have a KB number, perhaps a bit of Googling will reveal more info on the update.

I did some googling already and it seems that there are a few folks out there just as confused as me. AMD have not explained very well what the update does but it looks like it is an update for gaming machines. If that is indeed the case, I will ignore it permanently.

I "think" this came up before at WS though am not sure who posted it. If you look closely this update is 14 months old with a release date of November 30, 2016 and from what I found it is likely an HDMI Audio Driver. If that is the case then I certainly agree with you to ignore it. If hardware drivers are needed and Windows updates offers them I never take them from Windows, I go directly to the developer.

Barney, I also checked in your previous thread concerning the problems caused by the drivers and I see on one of your attachments showing the driver version causing the error was v.10.1.1.1681 a later driver than the one being offered by this Windows Update.
Just for reference, what is the driver version for the driver installed by the HP tech today? I am sure he installed the correct driver but also for future reference what is the exact model of Radeon Graphics card on your computer? Your specs say Radeon R7 but there are a lot of different versions of that card and some of them require different drivers.

With the automatic updates don’t they just install anyway ? Some certainly have for me. When problems have been caused I use the MS troubleshooter wushowhide as a temporary solution support.microsoft.com/en-nz/help/3073930/how-to-temporarily-prevent-a-driver-update-from-reinstalling-in-window

I have removed the information and link I gave earlier in this post as it appears to be incorrect and not valid for all Windows 10 editions. I am sure others have read it and to avoid confusion I will leave this post so those who have read it will understand the removal.

Yes, that is what I asked you to look for. Keep this information for future use and if you have Graphics Problems then go to the mfgr for assistance.

This restarting problem has still not gone away completely. I still get the very occasional BSOD and restart.
I have been talking to HP via their Help Desk and have tried various things to no avail. The latest message which I have received from them is that it is a recognized problem with some HP computers and that HP and Microsoft are working on a fix which will be installed in a future update.

HP has given you the answer, it is a known issue and they are working on a fix to be installed in a future update. There really isn't anything else that should be tried at this point.

I believe you recently bought this computer. Have you considered packing it up and bring it back to the place of purchase for a refund or exchange for a computer that works. It appears that HP has acknowledged that the computer has issues and I would think they would do what is right. I had a customer with an HP printer problem, the printer just stopped working. Customer made one phone call to support and HP acknowledged the printer had problems and refunded her her purchase price plus. I'd give it a try.

I only 'bumped ' it twice because my first 'bump' didn't seem to do anything. I only bumped it for information to my fellow members. If that is a problem then I will retire from the board..........adios amigos!

I think you will find that I was not asking a question, I was merely posting to keep you up to date with what was happening. I thought that other HP users might find my situation interesting. I will remain an observer on the board now but will not be posting again.

Watch this space! Did HP or a Microsoft update ever solve your BSOD and restart problem. I remembered your problem after having my backup program just stop working. For 15 consecutive days the backup failed. Support had no answers or suggestions. On the 16th day the computer backed up and every day since it has backed up. No changes and/or updates were done. It just started working again. Just curious did your problem get resolved?

Problem seems to be solved by updating my video drivers for about the 4th time. Touch wood, I have not had a BSOD since.
