This started this morning, so I plugged in another mouse only to have it do the same thing. What is causing this?

We don't have enough information to offer any suggestion. Desktop or Laptop. Operating system, antivirus program, type of internet connection.

Go to control panel, right click and open mouse. Check all options shown at top of panel. I think the problem will be in speed of mouse to move. I have had this problem before myself. Hope this helps.

We also need to know WHEN it skitters. Is when you are typing or just randomly

It sounds to me like the OP has mistakenly turned on the touchpad so that each time a hand, a sleeve, whatever, is dragged across the touchpad the "skittering" or the cursor moving around on its own happens. Turn off the touch pad and the problem should end.
Most Asus laptops come with a function key for disabling and enabling the touch pad. You can hold down the "Fn" button and then press the key (usually "F3", "F7" or "F9") to turn the device on or off. Since I don't know what model you have that really is as close as I can get. Look at those "F" keys and there likely is some sort of picture showing what it controls.

Hmm--how do I add that to my profile so that it shows? Acer Aspire laptop Win 10 Avira Century Link wireless Click on your name. This will open your Profile. Then click on the Edit Profile button. When that opens click on Personal. When that opens scroll down to the section labeled Signature. There is a box there where you can list all of that type information and it will show every time you post.

If the problem was solved, how so, I would like to know? Agreed. It is always nice and polite if a person's problem has been solved to post it back in their thread. It can be a great help to others who are having the same problem.

I agree Judy, but I have worked all day trying to solve a problem, that I knew wasn't that really difficult, just annoying. Shut down the computer and the next day everything was working just fine As said many times "A reboot can take care of a lot of minor problems". This may just be the OP's situation, and doesn't really know what the problem really was. But it would be nice if they would return with a little bit more of what was really done.

Even if a simple reboot fixed everything then it would be nice to know. It also would show people that very often that is the first thing to try. Saves a lot of headaches.

It was fine for 2 days--until today and now it is erratic in jumping around. Some pages and sites are fine--then it just starts again. I have the laptop pad covered so I don't drag over it. I just now clicked the FnF7 keys so will see if that helps. TY

A very small amount of pressure or movement is all that is needed.

BTW--the mouse still skitters even after I used the Fn F7 keys. However, it is not doing it on this site, but earlier I went to type in a web link and it did it in the address bar. There is really no rhyme or reason as to what sites I am on.

You did not respond to my question in post #7 - when does the problem happen - is it when you are typing ? Try this - go back to your Mouse Properties (Settings/Devices/Mouse and then click on 'Additional Mouse Options' under Related settings on the right) Click Pointer Options Tab Make sure the "Hide Pointer While Typing" check box is UNchecked. Click "Apply" Click "OK"

Also in Settings/Devices/ go to Touchpad and make sure it says Touchpad is turned OFF. Also make sure there is NO check mark in box next to "Leave touchpad on when mouse is connected." Attachments:

I searched all over for this 'attachment' photo and could not find what you are showing. I went to the Windows site and found this: www.instructables.com/id/Turn-off-Touchpad-on-Windows-10/If I follow this, would it turn off the touchpad?

I have no idea because I do not have EDT Control Center on my computer because mine is a Dell and chances are you don't either because the instructions are for an Asus laptop and you have an Acer laptop. You say you couldn't find Settings? Go to the search box and type Settings

I have no idea because I do not have EDT Control Center on my computer. You say you couldn't find Settings? Go to the search box and type Settings I am confused that you don't have EDT control Center since it is for WIN 10...(but I use 'Shell'). I typed in settings and got a box entitled 'Classic IE settings'--but I don't use IE. I guess Google Chrome has its own settings.

The EDT Control Center is not a general Windows 10 program and is NOT found on all Windows 10 computers. It is only installed on computers that use the ELAN Smart-Pad by ELAN Microelectronics. My computer is a Dell and does not have an ELAN Smart-Pad so of course I do not have that installed on my computer. The link you gave was information for Asus laptops and you have an Acer laptop. The Settings I am speaking of here are Windows Settings, not browser settings. The Windows Settings cover EVERYTHING that requires specific settings on the computer and Windows Settings are found on every computer; System Devices Phone Network & Internet Personalization Apps Accounts Time & Language Gaming Ease of Access Privacy Updates & Security Search

You say you couldn't find Settings? Go to the search box and type Settings Judy, I tried typing 'Settings' into my Search box and got the same result as the OP. My way of accessing Windows Settings is to click on the 'Start' button and then click on 'PC Settings' See attachment
