I like it because you can do so much with it. You can add text to documents if needed, fill out forms, sign a document if needed. All of this with a Free program! You don't need anything special either to do this type of thing. Several years ago we sold a house we owned out of state and were able to fill out and sign all forms needed using Nitro Free Reader and then email them back to the attorney. Yesterday I filled out a questionnaire needed for a doctors appointment. Nitro Free Reader is an excellent program.

I have it and Adobe Acrobat installed + the MS Reader which is being retired on the 15th of this month. However, I find I have very little need for 3rd party apps and have Firefox set as my default reader. I tested all my browsers and FF seems to be the fastest to open, with Edge very close. If I do need the extra features Nitro would certainly be my choice. It even has the ability to auto detect if a loaded pdf is a scanned document - now that is clever even if not essential It does all I can ever imagine having any need for. Only caveats - why do they need my name and email before I can download?? . . . . and it is a rather hefty app at 411MB

Like Everton, I use Firefox as my default PDF reader and use Nitro for the extra features if needed.

Thanks everyone. I do have Nitro and will continue using it. It's been a while and I thought perhaps there is something new and better.

Well, my mistake - what I downloaded from the page linked above was a pdf virtual printer, not a reader or editor so back to my question - how can the free version of PDF X Change Editor be downloaded and installed ? Please

Solved - there is an option for the free version prior to install. It would be helpful if this was made clearer at the start for dense people like myself - all I saw was Buy Now buttons. On first glance it looks just fine but I need a rest now after all that anxiety so will investigate it further later on

Please This was the only safe site I could find for this all the rest were on the "don't trust these download sites" list lifehacker.com/5842130/the-best-pdf-viewereditor-for-windowsI didn't download it, I'm perfectly happy with Nitro.

I downloaded from tracker software the developers site. Surely that was safe .? Where can I view the danger list for future reference ?
I just like to try different apps. I may keep it, maybe not. I rarely need to do anything more than read or print a PDF on my home machines. At work have to negotiate adobe.

I did this the both times I downloaded it to my two Windows 7 computers and have never received any email from them. I did it again when I got my Windows 10 computer and still have never received email from them. I have downloaded it to many friends computers and they never have received email from them. Just make sure you Do Not put a checkmark in the box next to the message; "Receive Nitro news, tips and special offers". This site IS different as it doesn't put that check mark in there for you, you have to do it yourself. As I said, in all these years I have NEVER received an email from them.

I would have been surprised if tracker software had been included.. however if I was choosing a new PDF viewer today I would go for one that does not demand my details such as PDF x change which appears to be an excellent program. I installed Nitro in 2016 and am sure I would have used a disposable email so would never have expected any communication. I would not hand out my email connected to my name to a stranger on the street and see no good reason for tracker software to need either if they never send out emails anyway. I don’t want my details as part of a list that is serving no purpose whatsoever.

My default reader is Sumatra - speed leaves everything else for dead. For editing I use PDFill pdf editor ( www.pdfill.com/). There is a free version ( www.pdfill.com/free_pdf_editor.html), but I happily paid $US20 for the Pro a few years ago and have never regretted it. It also comes with a free suite of 15 different pdf tools - "PDFill PDF Tools are FREE PDF functions to merge, split, reorder, delete, encrypt, decrypt, rotate, crop and reformat PDF pages, to add information, header, footer and watermark, to convert images to PDF, PDF to images or PostScript to PDF, to delete, flatten and list form fields, to scan to pdf, to create transparent image, and more." And no watermarks anywhere.
