Cyclone Gita struck our shores in New Zealand today. Apart from getting very wet we were fortunate not to have been affected as many people in some areas have been, having to evacuate their homes. There are numerous roads closed around my area. I went down to or harbour today to get some photos of he big seas. Got soaked but it was worth it ! Look at the fur seal at the end of the breakwater in the first one. Most of the seals were resting on land. NZ fur seals are quite small and are native to NZ. I think that one at the end was either very brave or slightly mad. We have a penguin colony as well so I hope it was not too tough for them to return to shore tonight after their day's fishing Click on the thumbnails if you want to see the bigger images

Absolutely Amazing pictures! The contrast you've shown is unbelievable. I don't mean color or shading contrast. What I mean are the differences shown within the photos, as the seals seem to lie calmly on the shore while the sea is roiling close by. They seem so unconcerned. The other one with amazing contrast is the 4th one, the ocean is crashing with tremendous strength in the background while the boats in the harbor seem to be just floating comfortably, I am sure they weren't, and the gulls are also flying above. I love the ocean.
