In the past, I have used PC Mover to transfer data from an old PC to a new one. Since I have not done tht in many years, I was wondering if that is still good to use or if anyone has a recommendation for another software to use.
Thank you,
Paul

Paul can you give information on both computers; operating systems, type of computers, internet access, that type of thing. If it is mainly programs you want from the old computer to the new one you are better off to install brand new copies of the programs to the new one rather than try to transfer. Things like pictures, document, email contacts, emails one easy way to do all is copy to flash drive from the old computer and then move them from the flash drive to the new computer. Really depends on what you want to do and computers involved. So gives us some more info and somebody can certainly give you the proper steps and program to use.

I haven't used PC Mover in long time but it did a decent job when I did. However, I now prefer to reinstall software instead of trying to move it.
To transfer files Judy's method works, but I find it easier to remove the drive from the old computer and attach it to the new computer using an EZdock, USB adapter or install the old drive in the new computer and just copy the files over. I use licensed versions of CopyWhiz or Teracopy to do the copying. I know TeraCopy has a free version, CopyWhiz may also have a free version.

Thank you both for your rply. The reason I was going to use PC mover is because it is just one step. Set it up and go. However, after consideration, I believe I will stick with the flash drive method.
For Judy------The old computer is Win 7 upgraded from XP. The new one came with Win 7 on it. She has cable internet and uses Google Chrome for browser.

Just curious, where in the world get she get a brand new computer with Windows 7 on it? I think the last sales of brand new computers with Windows 7 ended sometime in 2014.

I ordered a refurb HP from Newegg for her. I tried to get her to get one with Win 10 on it but she was dead set against it. She said it took her almost a year to learn 7 after I upgraded her from XP. She is 87 years old.

But as long as she's happy that is what is the most important.

The directions say it is for Mac to Mac or Mac to PC, it also works for PC to PC (I have used it for XP to W7 and from W7 to W7 and from XP to W10 and from W10 to W10, almost any combination you can think of).
