Didn't take me long to need help on here! Mouse has been erratic. Changed batteries, no difference. If I right click it takes a few seconds for the dropdown menu to show up. Then if I click 'open in a new tab' it takes a few more seconds to respond. Then I have to wait before I can click on anything else. Thought I would do a complete cleanup as shown here: Preliminary Cleanup Steps.
"3. - If you are able, RUN CCleaner. Open CCleaner. On the WINDOWS Tab, Right click and choose Check All.
Next go to the APPLICATIONS Tab. If you use Firefox, Chrome, Opera, or Safari you will see those browsers listed there. Right Click on each browser name and choose Check All to clean those browsers also. *NOTE : If you would like to keep your saved passwords in those browsers, be sure to click No at the prompt. **There are other less used browsers that also are supported by CCleaner including SeaMonkey, Chrome Plus, SRWare Iron, Pale Moon, Phoenix, Netscape Navigator, Avant, Maxthon and others. While these may not also be listed by name their temporary files will be cleaned out when Temporary System Files are cleaned with CCleaner.**
Be sure to Close ALL browsers. Cleaning cannot be done with these programs open. • Click on the Analyze Button to run CCleaner • It will scan the computer and then give a list of unnecessary found files. • Click the Run Cleaner button to remove these. When this is complete then proceed with the next steps."
I followed the steps above (figured it wouldn't hurt to do a complete CC clean--can always enter passwords again). Analyzed then clean. Clean ran for 20 hrs and still showed it needed to run 7 hrs more. That didn't seem right. Shut it down and I am here asking for help! Should it have run that long? Should I run it again? I also noticed that my recovery drive (D:) shows 1.62 GB free of 13.5GB Maybe that was the problem. If so how do I clean it out? C: drive is 1.68TB free of 1.80TB.
Thanks DICK

It should Never have run 20 hours. The program takes just minutes to run. There must have been many other things running in the background. Have you restarted the computer lately?
The drive space is fine there is nothing wrong with either of them. The Recovery drive is only used when and if you are going to redo the system, otherwise it is not used. It holds your system backup.
Restart the computer. Then open CCleaner. Remove ALL of the check marks in both the Windows Tab and Applications Tab. Then put check marks in only these boxes: Windows Tab: put check mark in Microsoft Edge Internet Cache; Internet Explorer Temporary Files; and in System Temporary Files. Applications Tab: Put check marks in Internet Cache for every browser you have. Then run CCleaner again. Don't let it run for hours, if it wants to run more than 15 minutes Stop it and come back and tell me.
Edit: I must apologize for what are now incorrect CCleaner instructions originally in the Preliminary Cleanup Steps. Those were originally written several years ago when CCleaner had much fewer options in it. Now with the new operating systems they have added a lot more to the program so I have revised the instructions given in the Preliminary Steps Sticky to match those I have just given here.

What Judy said. NEVER run CCleaner with everything ticked. There's a fair chance you will hose your system or at least render it unrecognisable if you do. Unless you REALLY understand what you are doing stick to the selections Judy advises.

Unless you REALLY understand what you are doing stick to the selections Judy advises. Much of that problem was likely caused by the Preliminary Cleanup steps. They were the ones written for WS and were 5 years old. I had removed a couple things, added a couple more BUT failed to read through the CCleaner instructions which have changed drastically with the more often, continued updates of CCleaner AND the new operating systems released since the writing of the instructions. Rest assured I HAVE fixed them to reflect today's changes to CCleaner and the new operating systems available too. Hope those didn't toast his system, don't think he's been back.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I was wanting to go to my RV forums first and see if it does the same thing. It still does it but not as bad.

So what you should be saying is the computer still has problems but that is not what you said, you said the system is ok but if you are having some sort of problem then it is not ok. We cannot help you unless you tell us the full story.

Then I have to wait before I can click on anything else. Sometimes it responds right away and next time hesitates. Very frustrating on forums as I like to 'open in new tab' when I see a subject I want to view. Sometimes open 3 or 4 before I go to them to read them.

Dick we need a lot more information here. Is this a wireless mouse? If so have you tried a different usb plug? Have you updated the mouse drivers? How old Is the mouse? They don't last forever you know. Those buttons do wear out sooner or later. Did you try a different mouse? Did you try this mouse on a different computer? If the mouse is the cause it will cause the same trouble on other computers. What browser is this? Does this happen with ALL browsers or just one? Version number of ALL browsers. Does this happen with all browser add-ons turned off? Are all browser add-ons fully up to date? Does this happen with other programs that are NOT browser, on the computer that are NOT used online? For instance programs like Word or Word Pad? How about Photo editing programs?
The reason I ask is you believed it was originally the mouse and after changing batteries but to no avail you decided for some reason that the mouse was not the cause, it still could be the cause if all you did was change batteries. You used CCleaner to do some clean up but that has made no difference yet you say the System is ok. Well something is not ok and now the only way to find out the cause is to eliminate things but we need to have the answers to all of the above questions to be able to begin to do that.

Dick we need a lot more information here. Is this a wireless mouse? If so have you tried a different usb plug? Trying one now. Have you updated the mouse drivers? Not yet, will do when we reach our destination. How old Is the mouse? A few years. They don't last forever you know. Those buttons do wear out sooner or later. Did you try a different mouse? Will probably buy a new one when we arrive at our destination (We are on the road now with 'come and go' connections. And in a rural area.) Did you try this mouse on a different computer? No other computer available right now. If the mouse is the cause it will cause the same trouble on other computers. What browser is this? FF Does this happen with ALL browsers or just one? I haven't tried it with others yet. Version number of ALL browsers. FF--54.0.1, IE--11.1007.10586.0 Does this happen with all browser add-ons turned off? Will try that. Are all browser add-ons fully up to date? I think so. Does this happen with other programs that are NOT browser, on the computer that are NOT used online? For instance programs like Word or Word Pad? How about Photo editing programs? No. The reason I ask is you believed it was originally the mouse and after changing batteries but to no avail you decided for some reason that the mouse was not the cause, it still could be the cause if all you did was change batteries. Well something is not ok and now the only way to find out the cause is to eliminate things but we need to have the answers to all of the above questions to be able to begin to do that. When I open a new tab everything locks up for a few seconds. Should reach our destination tomorrow and I'll find a new mouse to start with. Thanks DICK

Some advice; you were having trouble with your mouse but instead of trying everything possible with the mouse, the suggestions I gave above, you assumed the computer was the problem. Never do that. That was like deciding to have your appendix removed because you stubbed your toe. No matter what the problem is make sure that you have checked out all possible options to fix the item that is not working right before moving onto something else. By using CCleaner as you did you very well could have damaged the operating system AND the computer itself. Don't do that again. Does this mouse work erratically with every single program on the computer....not online in other words. Do all of the tests on this link www.lifewire.com/my-mouse-wont-work-2640089AND do all I suggested also. Then report back

Bought a new mouse today---same problem. Tried it with all my USB ports---same problem.
"Does this mouse work erratically with every single program on the computer."--no, just online forums. This forum and 5 RV forums is basically all I visit online. I'll check out the link you posted.
On the road again tomorrow. Heading to Nashville.
Thanks DICK

Wish you had done the steps on the link first before purchasing a new mouse. Several of the steps there possibly could have cleared this up or at least given you an answer and saved you the money. I cannot find where you have said, if this a desktop or a laptop. If it is a laptop have you made sure that the Touch pad is turned off? It should NOT be turned on, that can very easily make a mouse act erratically because your hand will brush against the touch pad and the touch pad usually takes precedence over the mouse and can override the moves you are trying to make with the mouse and then controls the cursor sending it all over.
Hopefully you use the mouse on a solid surface like a desk with a mouse pad. Using the mouse on a soft surface like a pillow, the padded arm of a chair or your lap can cause the mouse to work erratically. If using a solid surface like a table top or desk I would imagine you use a mouse pad, have you changed mouse pads? They wear out also and if the surface is worn away and rough then the mouse doesn't have the correct surface to work on and it can also cause the cursor to move erratically.

Laptop. Touchpad is off. I use the puter on a table with a mousepad. I'll try and locate another mousepad to try. I'm sure I have one--but where!!!! LOL I've been thinking more about this and it seems to only happen in forums when I use 'Open in new tab'.
Thanks DICK

Dick, July 18th I asked you these questions ;
Your Answer: only browsers, only online, only one browser Firefox.
You never tried with other browsers. I asked you to try another browser to see if it still happens, that was one week ago but apparently , you never have done this or if you have you have never reported back with the results.
Can't given any other advice until you try other browsers. Try another browser on all forums, not just one. Open a new tab on each forum, every one. Report back ASAP. This is the most important question for you to answer now.
If the problem lies with the one browser itself, Firefox, that can be easily fixed in just a few minutes. But it is to your benefit to test with the other browser to be sure it is just Firefox before I give the steps to fix it. As I do hope you have already learned with the unnecessary steps you've taken with this, "if it ain't broke then don't fix it" and only way to find out is see if these problems occur with another browser. This way if you find the problem happens with All browsers then we'll have to try other things. If it is only Firefox, then a fix can be applied.

Tried IE (only other browser I have) and there was no problem. Must be FF. Thanks DICK You are using Windows 10 so you also have the Edge browser which is the default browser, replacing IE . However you appear to have proven that it is a problem with FF. judy will help you with fixing Firefox.

Tried IE (only other browser I have) and there was no problem. Must be FF. Thanks DICK Then as Everton has said, your problem IS Firefox. The fix for this is very easy. You have to reset Firefox. The instructions are contained on this page: support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settingsread the entire page so that you do understand everything this fix will do. But this IS the fix for your problems.

That seems to have solved it!!! I have FF back the way I like it EXCEPT I used to have a plus and minus sign and 100% indicated in between them on the navigation bar. Can't remember how/where I got it. Any help?
Thanks much for getting me thru this.

I found the plus, minus and % info. DICK Would this have have been the Add On "Zoom Page" Dick ? addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/zoom-page/Browser pages can also be zoomed in or out by holding down the 'ctrl' key and using the plus and minus keys.

Might have been. I found it in 'customize'. I clicked the 3 bars in the toolbar and then clicked 'customize' at the bottom. Zoom page is not listed in my 'add-ons'.
