I just got an email supposed to be from yahoo with this headline "Important update to our Terms of Service & Privacy Policy" I wonder if that is legit or another try at spreading virus. Vera

I just Googled it and it is legit but I still won't click on the link that is in there. I just wish they would stuff alone when it works well.

WOW it gets scarier all the time out there in computer land. Some days I wish I never had gotten a computer but on the other hand the wealth of information is great. I do use Yahoo as my main email. For now I just delete that email and see what happens then.

You DO need to either go to the link in the email and read the information and if you want to use your Yahoo mail then you MUST agree to this new policy. From what I can found you must agree to this new policy in order to use your yahoo or aol email. You also should read my second link above; Yahoo and AOL just gave themselves the right to read your emails (again)

I did read both of your links. Any idea which email is safest? I have never used yahoo or aol. I use the email account provided by my ISP and always have done so since I signed up with them 15+ years ago. I can access it via their web site or using an email program. I use that for personal mail only with family & friends, so I won't get any spam, and I never do or have ever received any spam through that account. For mail used on web sites like this one or places where you are requesting information and therefore need an email I use gmail. I am very pleased with gmail and have been since day one.

When I bought my first computer in 1998 I used Outlook Express and liked it. After I bought my second computer I lost all my email addresses that were on Outlook Express. I got discouraged and started using Yahoo. Now Outlook Express is not available any longer. I also have gmail and hotmail addresses and use them for various other websites. I might start using my ISP website mail. Thanks for your input, Judy Vera

Thanks for your input, Judy Vera You needn't have lost the email addresses from Outlook Express, all you had to to was Import the address book to a new email Program, like Windows Live Mail or Thunderbird. I always used Outlook Express with my ISP email. When I got my Windows 7 of course Outlook Express was no longer available to use for Windows 7 so I went with Windows Live Mail and imported all my addresses from Outlook Express to Windows Live Mail on the new computer. Now I use another laptop with Windows 10. I have installed Windows Live Mail (it is no longer supported but I will continue to use it until it cannot be used and then I will go to Thunderbird) I again imported my address book from the Windows Live Mail on Windows 7 to this Windows 10 computer & Windows Live Mail with my ISP email account.

At the time of my second computer I had no idea how to import my addresses, so I gave up. Even though I have a windows 10 laptop I mostly use my iPad Pro so I might start using my ISP webmail.

I have always used ISP email as my main account with gmail as a secondary. The only drawback with an ISP email is if you change ISPs and have to advise all your contacts that you have a new address. It gets worse for all the websites which subscribe to the terminally stupid idea of using your email address as your login ID. Many of them struggle to grasp the notion that people sometimes change their email addresses.
