1. After using Firefox since Adam wore short pants I have switched to Opera. Compared to Firefox, IT FLIES! And I love the Speed Dial feature. I changed because I was having trouble (which I won't detail) with local news sites. I freely admit I ran too many extensions in FF (quite a few simply cosmetic) and will not be guilty of the same in Opera.
2. There's an annoying bug in Creators re networks. The visible evidence that machines in a home network are communicating is no longer there in the left Tree column of This PC, although the network is still actually functioning. We have three PCs networked, and to get around this each machine now has shortcuts to the other two on the desktop. This workaround works so much better in my dual pane file manager replacement than in the single pane This PC.
I vaguely remember reading that M$ did something to Homegroups in Creators. We have never used a Homegroup, just a Workgroup, and this may be part of the problem.
While trying to find out what was going on I discovered that Micro$oft are aware of this problem, but don't seem to be particularly interested in doing anything about it. No surprise there!

That's probably what I remember. But it would seem to ruin my theory because we never used a Homegroup. Quote from your M$ link:- Any folder, files, printers that you previously shared using HomeGroup will continue to be shared. This means that: Shared network folders will still be available. You can open them in File Explorer by typing the name of the PC and the shared folder name in this format: \\homePC\SharedFolderName.
That's essentially what I'm doing via shortcuts.

Thanks - some of those I'll try. Some look a bit scary. I'll be away from home for a couple of weeks. This can wait until I get back.

I freely admit I ran too many extensions in FF (quite a few simply cosmetic) and will not be guilty of the same in Opera. Until Firefox Quantum I never used it - never liked it. Back then it seemed a resource hog and prone to crashing. All the problems I observed that other people had almost always were a result of extensions which seemed be be available from every tom dick or harry and sometimes were not reliable. Maxthon was my browser of choice for a very long time and I still think its pretty good. I gave Firefox another chance (generous of me eh ) and have begun to like it. I have only one extension - Adblock and have no need of any more. For my homepage I use Kadaza www.kadaza.com/about_kadaza which is very customizable. It can be used as a homepage on any browser. It's worth a look at I do have other browsers installed, Opera and Vivaldi get a turn sometimes when I feel like a change which they say is as good as a holiday (but 'they' are lying about that !) Opera is great and is (on my machine) the fastest downloader by far. As there is another user on my pc who prefers Edge that is our default and actually it has improved to the stage where I find it very acceptable. My least favorite is Chrome. I think we have plenty of choices these days and using what suits us individually is the way to go.

As you know Firefox has also been my default since, as you said, "Adam wore short pants" and it still is my default browser. I rarely ever had crashes, never have used more than three extensions at any one time, AdBlockPlus being the key one. I also have a weather extension and a gmail notifier. I have one theme and Adobe Flash. I would get rid of the Flash but there is one game I play that requires it. Firefox is set to Ask to Activate when needed. I still love Firefox, especially the new Firefox Quantum. I do also use Opera and find it very fast. I have one add-on on Opera and that is AdBlockPlus. I use Opera quite often, I just happen to prefer Firefox. I do occasionally use Edge and find it "not bad". It gets better each time they update it.
I agree too with Everton
