This is an interesting report about AVG anti-virus and Avast Anti-virus.

So what is the consensus on this. Is Avast a keeper?

So what is the consensus on this. Is Avast a keeper? Nobody asked for a vote. This column was about AVG and there was no discussion in the article or here about dumping Avast so I am not sure why you have asked this question. We have many here who use Avast and are pleased with it, there are others who used other programs.
Should Avast be held accountable for the major AVG problems, yes of course and as Mr. Rankin has said, "You have the power of life or death over AVG. I demand that you use it to force AVG into “rehab.” Or at least do something to rehabilitate your own corporate reputation."
As you see there is no place in that article that says anything about keeping or getting rid of Avast, AVG, yes, but not Avast.

I also have used Avast and like it. I uninstalled it and cc when I realized ccleaner was collecting data for Avast. With getting rid of Ccleaner I guess I really didn't need to get rid of Avast. www.makeuseof.com/tag/stop-using-ccleaner-windows/ I installed Avira and have always liked it but keep having an issue of it putting a popup that will not go away even after restarting pc. That started again this morning.. Now I'm back to Avast Question answered... Thank you for your reply and info, J.

You know if you would check here before jumping from program to program you wouldn't have to keep changing av programs. We had the answer about CCleaner when that was happening because we had several threads here about it it is no longer happening that has been corrected by Avast/Piriform. At that time our advice never included getting rid of Avast. Since ALL was fixed by Avast/Piriform with CCleaner those of us who have always used CCleaner continue to use it and we continue to recommend it to others.
Since you never bothered to post here to ask about some sort of Avira pop up but changed I can't give even a guess as to what this pop-up might have been but if you had asked again we could probably have saved you that trouble also. I have used Avira for 10+ years at least and have never had a popup from them that would not go away. I have one slide up a day with the free version and that is it. Hit the "X" in the upper right corner and it is gone. I also have not had one single sign of an infection either.

Thread started Jan 11, 2018 at 3:16pm Ok, found that thread and I see that things removed ALL had something to do with Installers. Installers are considered malware and on that thread there were at least six installer files removed by Malwarebytes AdwCleaner. You NEVER need an installer. The OS handles installs perfectly fine.
If you are having some sort of a problem with Avira, Avast or whatever you must start your own thread and not hi-jack another person's thread.

I did not install the "installer". It came with the pkg. Fortunately there is no installer with avast.
As for HIJACKING this post.. I didn't ask for any help as I already know how to remedy the problem. I simply stated why I wanted to know if Avast was good to go. A yes or no answer would have suficed.
