My laptop is a lenovo, I use windows 10 professional.....I have ample hard drive space and 12 gigs of r.a.m.
I have tried to boot the computer many many times and always the same problem...…..the 2 green lights on the front of the computer...…..1)is for POWER that shows you are plugged into the wall....
2)the second shows that the computer is booting with constant blinking ….I have watched these lights for 2 years and it looks like the normal blinking pattern for boot up.....
Is there any suggestions that you may have to keep the laptop alive...….
I wish to thank any and all who respond to me IN ADVANCE for theie effort and the fabulous help I have received in the past.
best regards.....jessica

Have you tried a hard reset? Usually this is the first recommendation. To do this do the following:
Turn off the computer. Remove all peripheral devices attached to laptop, printers, scanners, USB devices, Media Cards, External drives. Everything that is not required to run the computer. You are testing the computer not any of those. Once the laptop is off and all other devices are removed, disconnect the AC adapter (power) and remove the battery. After removing the battery and disconnecting the power cord, leave the computer off for 30 seconds and while off, press and hold the power button in 5-10 second intervals. After 30 seconds, put the battery back in the laptop and connect the power cord. Turn the laptop on. See if the monitor lights up Post back with the results.

Try this jessela. With the laptop off take out the battery. Then unplug from power.. Next hold down the power switch on laptop for 30 to 60 seconds. Reconnect the power and boot again. If it works shut down, replace the battery and reboot. Not guaranteed to work but worth a try as a first step

Thank you Judy for this suggestion.....unfortunately this laptop doesn't have the removal battery that you can remove without opening the back and taking out the screws....I WILL TRY THIS.....as you proscribed but I need help in the battery removal process.

Does anyone feel the video card is hosed, or this is basically a boot up problem...…..I had a video card problem on another laptop and it started with wavy static lines going horizontally on the screen.....this time is just black screen with no reported problems previous to the black screen difficulty......

Do you have access to a monitor that you can connect to the laptop? It could very well be the monitor, not the video card.

HDMI CABLE TRIED......results below.....
while having my television on the HDMI setting, I first got a message ….INVALID FORMAT......then that went away and just black screen persisted BOTH on the television and laptop.
I have hooked up my laptop many, many times to watch a movie, and normally the same picture that appears on the laptop would show on the television simultaneously.....I guess it is happening again that way as both are black screens.

I've hooked my laptop up to the TV with the HDMI cable also and you are right, what you see on laptop screen you will see on the TV.
Since you get the black screen on both then it is likely the graphics card. Is the laptop still under warranty? If so then contact the mfgr. If not then if it is not very old you might take it to a repair shop but ask for an estimate first because if it is too costly you'd be better off to buy a new laptop.

I would not go to all that trouble of trying to remove the battery. It is possible that the user is not supposed to remove it.
Lots of laptops don't have removable batteries.

im working the steps above but I do know that the battery is removal.....it was done as I watched by a professional who did remove it...and upgraded my r.a.m. slot to 12 gigs...Then replaced the battery and cover.....I will report back again after completing the ""Procedure Without Battery Removal"" from above......for some reason I have good vibes about the outcome, and haven't a clue why......

It just reinforces that the problem means that either the graphics card is bad or the monitor is bad.

How did you find out about the ribbon? Did you find it while trying to remove the battery? This info could help others with the same problem.

I was clueless as you know but once I told my technician that the laptop was functioning when my alarm came on, and the problem happened suddenly and not a gradual formation of lines on the screen which to him meant that the video card was starting to go bad......he focused on the connections that would enable the screen to function.
To my knowledge it had nothing to do with the battery removal.....I can take no credit on my own in the process of this repair, and knowing how these laptops have all their parts scrunched together I seriously doubt that I could take off the screen frame myself and be able to put it back together...…...an alert technician did the whole thing for me.
I know this forum deals with repairs, knowledge and techniques that you can do on your own, but this went to a far deeper mind than my own to be able to fix the problem.

Tell you what, I don't know anymore than you do about taking apart a laptop and repairing it. Wouldn't know where to begin. I've replaced multiple hard drives on desktops. Installed a CD drive and of course replaced CMOS batteries any number of times on a desktop motherboard but laptops? Nope. I've needed repairs twice on Dell laptops and I had maintenance agreement on both and they sent a tech to my house to do the repairs. I sat and watched both of them work and knew by watching there was no way I would even consider attempting a laptop repair.
You obviously have a very good and trustworthy tech who worked fast and found the cause in a fairly short time. You're lucky.
Glad it is all fixed.
