I have found a number of my e-mails sent to this category that I never set up and had no knowledge of. These are legitimate e-mails that I want but I can't find any way of stopping this filtering by Google. Does anyone know how I can manage these e-mails to go to my inbox and not to the unwanted box?

I stuck with the classic rather than switch. I looked at the "new version" but could honestly see no reason for the changes they made so I said, "no thanks".

I tried the new interface for about a week then switched back to classic.

I checked and I am still in the classic g-mail, not the new one. I have moved everything out of the unwanted box so I will have to wait for another day to try the other options recommended.

I can not offer a definite solution as after some research it seems you are not alone in being plagued by this 'Unwanted' folder. What does seem to have been established is that the folder is not created by g-mail but by some 3rd party device or app. Samsung phones appear to be a common denominator. If a Samsung phone is involved with your email this link may be of help. It is from 2014 and specifically about Outlook but refers to the 'Unwanted' folder being created on the Mail app on the phone.

I thank you for the information - I have a Samsung Galaxy on 5 phone and I found several sites listed as spam when they are not. I am going to see what happens in the future because I did not receive any mail in the unwanted folder today.
