When I'm reading a post on this site,NWT, and there is a link posted for more info. clicking that link just takes me to
"Hmmm...can’t reach this page". It happens in both Edge and FF. I find this also on happens on some of the links in Facebook and in Google search on some items.
I'm sure there's a very simple remedy for this. Some setting that needs changing that I can't find. I'm using Classic Shell. Any help would be appreciated. pat

Does this occur anywhere else - or just here?
If just here, then there must be a setting which I am unable to duplicate.

That means it is probably a browser setting. Try using another browser and see if this problem occurs.

No guarantees but I have read that this has been a fix for some people with this issue
R-click on connection icon in taskbar. Select "Open Network & Internet Settings". When it opens click on "Change Adapter Options" In that window right click on your current connection and select Properties. Look and see if "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) is checked. If it is not, then check it. Click OK to exit.
Both Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4)should be checked. If it does not work then just uncheck V 6 but leave 4 checked.

Thank you for your suggestion...

What firewall and av program are you using? What add-ons are in your browser? Try Firefox in Firefox Safe mode. Go to Help, Start with Add-ons disabled. This will restart Firefox with nothing added. Try some of the links that do not work and see if they work, if so that means an add-on is causing the problem.
Also Please give us 3 or 4 of the links from here at NWT that do not work. We can check them out.

The one thing I did notice was when the site couldn't be displayed, the address was redirected.( redirect.viglink.com/?key=bbb516d91daee20498798694a42dd559&u=http%3A//www.ableword.net/index.html ). If I copy and pasted it, no problem. Here are a few of the sites I used.... www.howtogeek.com/368037/dont-want-the-windows-october-2018-update-yet-heres-how-to-pause-it/github.com/passionate-coder/Classic-Start www.ableword.net/index.html www.userchrome.org/how-create-userchrome-css.htmlI'm using windows defender firewall.. and Avast free. as for browser add-ons, My main browser is Edge and I haven't a clue where the add-ons are located. I will check FF but need to find "Safe Mode" first. I just don't use FF that often so haven't taken the time to get to know it.

I explained how to get to Firefox Safe Mode in my post, read the instructions, they are not difficult:
I posted this because you said this happens using both Edge and FF.

Clear the cache in all of your browsers that are having the problems. Here is how to clear the Firefox cache support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-clear-firefox-cacheHere is how to do it in Edge
EDIT:
Also, do you have any adblockers installed? I know avast has an adblocker.
Did you make any changes in anything before this happened? How are you connected to the internet? Do you have other computers and if so does this happen on them also?

I have everything cleared in both ff and edge. checked out this issue on another computer, no problem at all on it. No addblockers installed. I have free Avast installed but don't see it there. This issue has been going on for several months. Actually, it's been at least a year. In all my Google searches I can't click on the first few listings without getting the Can't find page. If I scroll down to "web results"it's okay

Since the other computer works ok then the problem lies with this particular computer. How are you connected to the internet? WiFi or Ethernet?

Here are two other things to try: Please try the first one, see if it fixes things. If it does not then try the second suggestion.
Checking proxy settings in Microsoft Edge
Step 1. Open the Microsoft Edge browser. Step 2. At the top right, click on the three-dots symbol, then select Settings. Step 3. Scroll down to Advanced Settings and click View Advanced Settings. Step 4. Go to Proxy Setup, click on Open Proxy Settings. Step 5. Make sure Use a proxy server is OFF and Automatically detect settings is ON.
Make sure DNS client is running
The “Hmmm…can’t reach this page” bug might be happening because of the DNS service in Windows 10 is stopped. So, a good method to fix the problem will be in turning on DNS client service in Windows 10. To do so, follow these steps below:
Step 1. Press Windows Key + R then put services.msc in Run dialog box. Click OK. Step 2. Locate the DNS Client service and double-click it. If the service is running normally, go to another method. Step 3. Now, you click Start and set Startup type to Automatic. Step 4. Click OK to save changes and reboot the machine.

The first part is like it should be... However, clicking the set Startup type to automatic is greyed out.. will try to put a pix of it.

Try the other suggestion. You definitely do NOT want a Proxy server.

Possumpaw, you may have some luck with the Internet Connection Troubleshooter. Go to Settings/Update & Security/ Troubleshoot/ then select Internet connections and let the troubleshooter do its work. This has helped me more than once

Avast no longer provides an ad blocker, except in Avast Secure Browser so you will not find one Inability to change this configuration is by design in windows 10 - it is not possible to change it.
Try going back to your Network & Internet Connections/Change Adapter Options as you did before and click on your connection - there is a Diagnose button that will check for problems.

Everton. I tried your suggestions and the diagnose was that all was fine... Thank you and Judy for all the effort you both have put into this problem. I've been putting up with it for some time so I guess I'll just have to deal with it. Thanks again. Pat

I can imagine how frustrating it must be ! I found this page you may like to look at (please don't download the suggested PC Repair tool!) One of the suggestions is the opposite to others I have found in that it suggests unchecking IPv6 and could be worth trying. Also using a private window is a another thing to try.
Have a read through all he suggestions - as it says at the end there are many different causes and you just need to hit on the correct one for your situation.
