I'm confused, which icon are you missing. The Start Menu icon or the Windows File Explorer Icon? Judy give instructions to retrieve the File Explorer Icon in Windows 10 but your computer specs state you are using Windows 7 Home Premium. More info please.

Sorry, forgot you are using Windows 7. Can I ask, what has replaced the icon?

Nothing replaced it. All that is in start menu right now is start button, IE, Win Explorer, Win media player, Google Chrome, and Firefox.

I just Googled "missing start menu icon in windows 7". Multiple possible fixes returned, I have prior commitments to take care of today so I did not check scan results but I'm sure you will find solution there. Will check back later

Sorry, forgot you are using Windows 7. Can I ask, what has replaced the icon? Your reply is blank and only contains my quoted question. Do you mean that nothing is there just the empty taskbar? Can you give us a printscreen?
Things like this often happen when the icon cache is corrupt. Follow the instructions here to repair;

I am confused. In your first post you said;
But now you say; So it isn't the start BUTTON, it is there but when you hit it then the Windows Icon doesn't show in the start MENU. Correct? Here is a print screen of my Windows 7 Home Premium Start Button & Menu.
As you can see I don't have any Windows Icon in the Start Menu though my Start BUTTON is a Windows Icon.
What appears there is really up to the user.
When you clicked that Windows Button what would happen?

When I click the start button, your print screen shows. On my old Vista machine, there was an individual windows icon along with the other icons on the start menu. To tell you the truth, I do not remember if there ever was a windows icon showing when I first bought this machine.

When I click the start button, your print screen shows. On my old Vista machine, there was an individual windows icon along with the other icons on the start menu. Well then you haven't "lost it" as you said because even though it was there in Vista in Windows 7 it was never there.
What did that Icon do when you clicked it? That would certainly help us figure out what this Icon was a short cut to because that is what the icons are, shortcuts to programs and you can put anything there that you wish.
EDIT:
In looking in the Vista Forums at pictures of the Default Start Menu's in all versions of Vista none of them show a Windows Icon in them so it had to be something you personally added.
Here is a page that shows them all.

I can't say either since neither of my Windows 7 computers have that in the Start Menu and it would have been used for only ONE thing, not many. Only Windows Icon associated with the Start Menu on my two Windows 7 computers is the actual round Start Button which has a Windows Icon on it. As I said, it has to be something that you put in there because I could find no pictures of the default Vista Start Menu that contained a Windows Icon.

NO, it was listed along with the others in the start menu area in Vista.

Judy, please close this thread.
Are you sure? somebody who also was a Vista user might have the answer. I personally have never used Vista, except maybe once or twice when helping a friend with a computer problem, so I am only going on what I can find in the Vista Forums. I just know it is not on either of my Windows 7 computers and likely was not on yours either, you just now noticed it isn't there. While some icons remain the same from operating system to operating system others have been changed and maybe this is one of them between Vista and Windows 7.
Closing it locks it and then nobody can reply. If you don't want to post in it anymore just don't post in it and remove the option to receive notifications for it or just ignore any more replies.
Forums are teaching sites to help many people not just the people who post the question so
I really hate to close a thread unless there is some sort of problem or argument happening in it and there is no problem or argument here.
